A Plot: Hank and the locals jostle for a seat in the sun at the Summer Solstice Deck Party at The Ruby.
B Plot: Wanda observes (and annoys) guests when she tries to complete an article for a human psychology blog at the party.
C Plot: Brent secretly sells the special popsicles (or "Momsicles") Emma has made just for him, while Oscar experiments with his own sugar-free popsicle recipes as per doctor's orders.
D Plot: Davis and Karen are forced to share a gun when Davis’ revolver is sent in for repairs.

Tropes referenced:

  • Chekhov's Gun: When Emma accuses Phil's dog of peeing on her flowers, Phil says it might have been the coyote that he saw earlier. Davis and Karen later respond to a call where the coyote has gotten into Helen's garage.
  • Comically Missing the Point: Upon hearing that Brent has been selling her Momsicles, Emma grabs Oscar's terrible popsicles and says they're going to give their son "a real treat". Oscar thinks she means they're buying him a new bike.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Oscar brings up how he ran over Brent's bike when Brent was six. A flashback in Air Show showed Oscar running over Brent's bike, though Brent looked older than six, meaning Oscar's probably destroyed more than one of Brent's bikes.
    • Alison appears with a baby, having been pregnant in the episode Flush Photography.
  • Cool Old Lady: Mavis notices her wallet is missing and lists off all the places she could have left it recently, like the rock-climbing wall, the gun range, or the race track.
    Lanny: I want your life.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Lacey tries to avoid dealing with the usual insanity of the deck party by declaring the deck rules free. When she later tries to get people to stop eating Momsicles because they weren't bought at The Ruby, Fitzy reminds her that she declared the deck rules free so she can't do anything about them.
  • Gag Echo: Brent has an Imagine Spot where The Ruby's deck is a wild nightclub and Lacey brings out a line of cocaine on a tray for Fitzy, who pulls out a rolled-up bill to snort it while saying "Come to papa". Later, on the real Ruby's deck, Lacey brings out a glass of "generic, off-brand Cola" on a tray for Fitzy, who pulls out a regular straw to drink it while saying "Come to papa".
  • Honour Before Reason: In order to make up for losing Ravi's seat, Hank adamantly refuses to leave Mavis' seat, even after everyone has abandoned the deck because of a sudden thunderstorm. Hank only leaves the seat once Mavis tells him that he can keep it and the table gets hit by lightning.
Lanny: I can't decide whether he's being honourable or stupid.
    Mavis: It's Hank. Stupid.
  • Hypocritical Humour: After Brent taunts Oscar for not being allowed to have sugar, Oscar wonders how he grew up to be so cruel. Cut to a flashback of Oscar taunting a young Brent over how he's not old enough to drink whisky.
  • Momma's Boy: Brent loves Emma's Momsicles so much that Lanny misnames them Momma's Boys and Suck-up-sicles.
  • Mondegreen Gag: When Emma tells Brent that Oscar can't have sugar:
Emma: The doctor told him his fasting glucose numbers are high.
Oscar: That doctor's high! Fatty goop toes? What the hell does that mean?
  • Narrative Profanity Filter: Done in-universe (and accidentally) by Wanda when she badly lip-reads that Alison called Hank a "funky gas mole" for eating all her fries.
  • Placebo Effect: When Karen complains about sharing her gun with Davis, Wanda suggests giving him some kind of substitute to make him feel better, inspiring Karen to secretly give him a toy gun instead. When Karen later tries to thank Wanda for the idea, Wanda has forgotten about the earlier conversation and thinks that Karen filled Davis' gun holster with sugar pills.
  • Reading Lips: Wanda tries to continue her observations from inside The Ruby by reading lips, but she just comes up with nonsense.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Stealth Insult: When Hank shows off his new sunglasses:
Wanda: Eh, you're more of a white frames guy.
Hank: But the other day you said only barfbags wear white frames.
    Wanda: And here we are.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: Lacey also calls Hank a barfbag despite not being present for the earlier Stealth Insult scene. Hank is surprised by how quickly that caught on.
  • Tempting Fate: Wanda tries to get the people on the deck to act natural by telling them to do what feels right. Cut to Wanda getting thrown off the deck for bothering everyone with her psychological study.
  • Ticket-Line Campout: Hank sleeps in front of The Ruby so he can wake up early and get a seat on the deck for the solstice party. He wakes up to find that it's 11:30 and everyone just stepped over him.
  • Unishment: Emma tries to get back at Brent for selling her Momsicles by instead giving him Oscar's terrible turnip-based popsicles, but Brent loves them even more than the Momsicles.
  • What Have I Become?: Brent is surprised throughout the episode by how he's let his greed override his morals and gluttony, especially after he triumphantly proclaims that he can charge any amount he wants for the Momsicles and the "rubes" will still pay for them.
  • What the Hell Is That Accent?: Davis surmises that British cops get respect because of their accent. So he attempts a British accent over and over, but usually fails, and often uses a different accent entirely, such as Irish or Jamaican.
