Tropes for the episode:

  • Asshole Victim: The victim, Charles, turned out to be a corrupt stockbroker who forced his inferiors to sleep with him to get ahead; cheated countless innocent, desperate people out of thousands, maybe millions of dollars; slept with a woman to get her to invest in a fraudulent company, and even tricked her son into thinking they were in love before coldly breaking up with him and breaking his heart. It’s really hard to feel bad for him getting shot and left for dead in an alley.
  • Depraved Bisexual: Charles, who charms Kip and his mother separately and sexually to defraud them both, breaking Kip's heart when he's done with them.
"Sleeping with a mother and her son? That's about as low as it gets!"
  • Greed: The motive behind many a white collar crime in this episode. It's the title of said episode.
  • Mama Bear: Charles's killer is furious when she learns how much he ill-treated her son, including breaking his heart.
"I'm an adult. I got no one to blame but myself for sleeping with a cold-blooded reptile like you. But Kip's just a kid!"
  • Pet the Dog: Posthumous in the Ghost Reunion Ending, where Charles’s ghost gives Lilly his only genuine smile in his appearance as he toasts her for solving his murder.
  • Scary Black Man: Teddy Mars, Charles's coke dealer, is pretty much the only person not fooled by his fraudulent schemes, and threatens Charles for the money he was owed. Charles promptly delivers the money through a subordinate.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Straight Gay: Aside from admitting their love for someone of the same gender, none of the gay characters ever display a single stereotype.
  • White-Collar Crime:
    • Randy Price was proven innocent of Charles's murder, but he is promptly arrested for investment fraud.
    • As the detectives discover, Charles has defrauded many people.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: Kip genuinely feels for the people Charles defrauded, and after seeing Charles' heartless attitude towards them and himself, he exits the financial world and becomes a teacher.
