- A Day in the Limelight: This episode focuses on Tommy. With the exception of Numbuh 2, who only appears in the beginning, the rest of Sector V doesn't appear.
- Bait-and-Switch: In the opening of episode, it looks like that Tommy is being chased by an enemy in a giant robot, then it turns out to be Numbuh 2 trying to get him back home to take a bath like their mother said.
- Logo Joke: As this episode is centered on Tommy, the KND logo scene transition is a Tommy-themed logo.
- Moby Schtick: The episode is a Whole-Plot Reference to Moby-Dick with a giant rubber duck in place of a whale.
- Naked People Are Funny: The Running Gag of the episode is people laughing at Tommy's nudity.
- Or Was It a Dream?: When the entire crew is sucked down the drain, Tommy ends up back in his bathtub, having apparently imagined the whole thing. The episode ends on a Slasher Smile from a rubber duck on the bathroom floor.
- The Pig-Pen: Captain James P. Dirt. Supposedly, he ran away from home as a child after refusing to take a bath, and is encountered as an adult by Tommy, having never bathed since, leading a crew of lazy and filthy children.
- Shout-Out: The captain and his crew of the S.S. Stinkypants are parodies of Captain Kirk and the original Enterprise crew from Star Trek: The Original Series. The captain, whose name is Jimmy T. Dirt, even has the same speech pattern as William Shatner, and the red outfit he wears is much like the ones worn by the crew of the Enterprise starting with Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
- Taking You with Me: It turns out Moby Duck is a submarine piloted by Captain Dirt's mother, and when she's about to be pulled into the drain, she declares that he and his crew are going to take a bath, even if it means taking them all down with her.
