When Numbuh 1 leaves for a vacation, the rest of the team are bombarded by attacks from their enemies. Frustrated, Numbuh 4 assumes command and forces the team to build a 'clam-cannon', working through the night. Will this be enough?

Now loading tropes:

  • Broken Record: While at the amusement park, Numbuh 1 is pestered by a mascot that constantly asks, "Who's a happy boy?"
  • Drunk with Power: Numbuh 4 declares himself temporary leader and the power immediately goes to his head and he begins to treat the other kids poorly in his quest to build the clam cannon. It gets to the point where he starts wearing Numbuh 1's glasses, and then in a later scene starts wearing Numbuh 1's clothes and a bald cap.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: After putting himself in charge and barking orders, Numbuh 4 bemoans how the others ignore him and would do whatever Numbuh 1 said in a heartbeat.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: When everyone leaves after Numbuh 4 decides to build the clam cannon, he makes a valid point about how they would build the clam cannon if Numbuh 1 was around. At the end of the episode he’s proven right when everyone agrees to rebuild the clam cannon after Numbuh 1 sees it, and even agrees to work through the night to get it ready.
    • Also, the reason Numbah 4 got Drunk with Power and began the clam cannon project — Numbah 1 leaves and less than five minutes later, the KND's under assault from everyone, and apparently Numbah 1 was the only one who knew how to operate the various defenses against said enemies. Who wouldn't be frustrated in a situation like that?
  • Early-Bird Cameo:
    • Count Spankulot shows up before he becomes the subject of an episode.
    • The Delightful Children mention Father's existence way before he shows up in the season finale.
  • Exhausted Eye Bags: After the clam cannon is completed Numbuh 3 and Numbuh 5 can be seen with bags under their due to being forced by Numbuh 4 to work through the night on it.
  • Foreshadowing: The first time the Delightful Children attack, they immediately retreat because of their curfew and "Father would be positively furious" if they were home late. As we learn in Operation G.R.O.W-U.P, Father's fury is indeed something to be worried about.
  • Hoist by Their Own Petard: The Delightful Children try to do this by firing the Kids out of their own clam cannon. However, the cannon is so shoddily-built that it backfires, sending them packing.
  • Irony: While trying to build the clam cannon for Numbuh 4, everyone but Numbuh 4 himself is tired and miserable the entire time. When Numbuh 1 finally returns, he thinks the cannon is marvelous, and wants to repair it so that it works properly. Almost everyone is on board with this idea...except Numbuh 4, who complains about how tired he is, and promptly falls back asleep.
  • Leader Wannabe: Numbuh 4 becomes this and Drunk with Power.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: The Delightful Children prove to be this when they cease their attack on the incomplete Kids Next Door team because they had curfew. If they stayed, they'd get in trouble with their father.
  • Rule of Symbolism: When Numbuh 1 return, Numbuhs 2, 3, and 5 go from being exhausted from working on the Clam Cannon to miraculously well rested and ready to rebuild the Clam Cannon to show their Undying Loyalty to their rightful leader.
  • Ship Tease: Surprisingly, one that isn't between Numbuhs 3 and 4. While trying to avoid working on the clam cannon Numbuh 4 wants to make, Numbuh 5 ends up discovering Numbuh 2 sleeping inside the engine all by himself. She's confused at first, but then decides to join him underneath it.
  • Undying Loyalty: When Numbuh 1 gets back and says he wants everyone to work through the night making a functional clam cannon, everyone but Numbuh 4 happily gets to work.
