Recap / Code Prime - R1: Rebellion, 34 "Fall of Britannia"

Go To

As the Black Rebellion commences and the Tokyo Settlement is consumed by destruction, violence, and bloodshed, the Decepticons initiate their conquest of Pendragon before moving on to conquering the Empire itself.

  • Adaptation Distillation: The Black Rebellion and the Decepticon's conquest of Jasper, Nevada are combined in this episode, with the latter being pushed up by roughly a season's worth of time and relocated to Pendragon (though according to maps of Britannia, Pendragon is in the same part of North America as where Jasper is).
  • The Bad Guy Wins: The Decepticons, who are firmly established to be Eviler than Thou in regards to Britannia, manage to kill Charles and conquer Pendragon, setting the stage for them to replace the empire as the new rulers of Earth.
  • Bond One-Liner: Starscream does a pretty good one to Beatrice's despair.
    Beatrice: You...can't...do this.
Starscream: (snickers) We just did! (kills off Beatrice with a missile)
  • Curb Stomp Cushion: Downplayed, because although the Decepticons do take a beating conquering Pendragon, there's elements of Just Toying with Them in play.
  • Disappointed by the Motive: Megatron, getting into Charles's head with his Dark Geass, finds his greatest fear pathetic. As it's his family abandoning him, showing that underneath his bravado, he's a scared little boy trying to bring the world together so he'll never be alone.
  • Divide and Conquer: Due to the Black Rebellion, the Knights of the Round are out of Pendragon, making it much easier for the Decepticons to invade.
  • Evil vs. Evil: The primary focus of the chapter is the conflict between Britannia and the Decepticons. The Decepticons win.
  • Humiliation Conga: Megatron subjects Charles to a massive one, as he only kills the latter after, in order, sacking Pendragon, taking most of his children prisoner, destroying the Ragnarok Connection, making him witness the obliteration of his palace, and finally revealing that he forced V.V. to betray his brother, just to break the Emperor's spirit.
  • Killed Off for Real: Megatron vaporizes Charles with his Fusion Cannon, then has Soundwave check to be sure that Charles is really gone.
  • No Plans, No Prototype, No Backup: Justified with the Excalibur, as while the frame hasn't passed all of its tests yet, there's a very good reason to use it right now.
  • Rousing Speech: Before the invasion begins, Megatron gives out an awesome one, coupled with one of his most badass lines in the entire franchise:
Megatron: Long have we been in hiding, ruling from the shadows! Too long! The Britannian Empire has forgotten its place, believing its false power to be true might! All due to the treachery of Charles zi Britannia! But that is about to change... no more disguises! No more mercy! The time has come to remind this world... who it's true masters are! DECEPTICONS! TRANSFORM AND RISE UP!
  • To Serve Man: One Insecticon actually eats an unlucky Sutherland pilot nearing the battle's end.
  • Weapon of X-Slaying: It's heavily implied that the Excalibur was built specifically to fight Megatron. And while it ultimately loses, it lasts far longer against him than anything else Britannia can offer.
