Recap / Code Lyoko S 1 E 23

Go To

During a vacation period at the school, the group plans to have a party at Yumi's house, as her parents are away. Jeremie, meanwhile, is frustrated by Aelita's Materialization Program, and is worried that XANA may attack soon, as Lyoko is having problems. Odd promises to have a DJ at the party. This DJ, named Samantha, is also his girlfriend, who goes to another school. After meeting up, she has Odd take her to the computer room. Once they arrive, she tries to steal a laptop, since she's too poor to afford one. Odd stops her but ends up being caught by Jim. Odd is taken to the principal's office, while Sam stays hidden (and consequently locked) in the room. Jeremie and Ulrich defend Odd, but Odd claims he simply wanted to take the laptop. Meanwhile, Xana causes the ground under the city to melt, making all the buildings sink. Odd admits that Samantha was the one to steal the laptop, so Jeremie heads to the factory while Odd and Ulrich stays behind to save those trapped in the school (Samantha and Jim). Yumi, meanwhile, discovers the problem while in town and rushes to the factory as well. Jeremie sends her to the mountains sector, where the activated tower is. Yumi and Aelita cross the levitating rock field to the tower and are attacked by three hornets. Yumi is devirtualized, and Aelita hides under a home-made rock shelter. Odd, Ulrich, and Samantha arrive at the factory, and the two remaining Lyoko warriors enter Lyoko to help Aelita. Ulrich is devirtualized as well but manages to take out one of the hornets, and Odd takes out the other two. Aelita manages to deactivate the tower just as Jim is about to be covered in mud. Jeremie activated a return trip and lets Sam use his computer to keep her from stealing one.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Big Damn Kiss: Odd kisses Sam in the first few seconds that he sees her, causing both to blush for a while.
  • Embarrassment Plot: Odd has a massive crush on Sam by the looks of things, and part of the reason for his unwillingness to talk to Jeremie and co. about her needing a good computer is down to this trope. He even keeps a picture of her in his pocket, so her was clearly afraid of being mocked by his mates.
  • Epic Fail: Odd tries to slide in the halls in his shoes, but ends up falling onto his butt instead.
  • Jerkass: Jim is this for no apparent reason, being a hard-ass about playing some sliding competition in the halls when nobody else is enjoying their three day vacation. He also takes away Odd's phone later on, citing the school's "No phones allowed" policy, which is just completely wrong as there are no such rules the school has.
  • Questioning Title?: "Rock Bottom?"
  • Standard Snippet: The music Jim works out to is blatantly a sound-alike of "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor.
  • Stock Footage: Probably the most blatant example in Season 1. For example, aside from Yumi talking with her parents and the boys playing slide in the halls, most of the first half comprises of footage from "Holiday in the Fog" and "Frontier". Not to mention the reused animation of Aelita entering Code Lyoko at the end.
  • Training Montage: Jim when he works out, including a pitch-and-time-shifted "Eye of the Tiger" ripoff.
  • Trapped in a Sinking Car: More like Sinking school, but the same effect. Jim and Sam are stuck in the school, and are slowly sinking into the ground. Odd and Ulrich have to get Sam out out the computer lab (they are unaware of Jim, however).
