Recap / Chucky S 2 E 2 The Sinners Are Much More Fun

Go To

Jake, Devon and Lexy struggle with the strict rules and institutionalized homophobia of their new Catholic reform school, especially when Chucky arrives with a murderous agenda. Meanwhile, in Beverly Hills, a suspicious detective threatens Tiffany’s imposture as “Jennifer Tilly” and the discovery of her secret hostage, Nica Pierce.

Tropes in this episode:

  • Actor Allusion:
    • Jake comments that Father Bryce reminds him of his dad. Both characters are played by Devon Sawa.
    • After Sister Elizabeth dies, Father Bryce tells the students to keep busy, because "idle hands are the Deveil's playground". Devon Sawa stared in the horror movie Idle Hands.
    • In one scene, Tiffany is watching and quoting along to a scene from Liar Liar, which Jennifer Tilly acted in.
  • Bound and Gagged: Jake and Devon do this to Chucky in order to find out what his plan is.
  • The Bus Came Back: For the first time since Seed, Glen and Glenda return at the end of the episode.
  • Call-Back:
  • Enemy Mine: It’s revealed that Nica and the fragment of Chucky's soul within her are secretly working together to exact revenge on Tiffany.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: During their encounters with Chucky throughout the episode, the trio notes on how his behavior had been different; taking pictures of them and around the school, and every chance he had to kill any of them, he ran away instead. It’s after Devon and Jake capture Chucky and steal his phone that Jake figures out what this particular Chucky is up to.
Jake: This Chucky isn't an assassin. He's a scout.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Detective Sam Gavin doesn't hear Nica screaming for help at the top of her lungs.
  • Flipping the Bird: Chucky does this to taunt Jake, Devon, and Lexy after killing Sister Elizabeth.
  • It's All My Fault: Jake breaks down and blames himself for all the chaos and death that Chucky caused in the past season and the previous episode. Devon and Lexy are quick to reassure him that Chucky is the one to blame for what happened; Jake was just a pawn in his scheme.
  • Reactive Continuous Scream: When Lexy notices the Chucky doll trying to sneak out of her room, she starts screaming and Chucky screams as well. Both screaming wakes up Nadine, which causes her to start screaming when she notices Chucky.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Tiffany wakes up to find the head of the Tiffany doll in her bed as a warning, just like in The Godfather.
    • In one scene, Tiffany is watching and quoting along to a scene from Liar Liar.
  • Soap Punishment: Father Bryce admits that they used to do this to any students who used foul language. Nowadays he makes them read a passage from the bible, which is what he forces Jake to do.
  • Spiteful Spit: Chucky does this to Devon after the latter manages to pin him down.
  • Skyward Scream: Tiffany does this after finding the head of the Tiffany doll in her bed.
  • Sticky Fingers: Nadine, Lexy's new roommate at Incarnate Lord, admits that the reason she got sent to the reform school was her kleptomania.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: It turns out that Tiffany going into mostly seclusion and frivolously spending Jennifer Tilly's money has GREATLY affected her reputation and income, with Nica, the woman she is holding captive, even pointing out she needs a job after Tiffany reveals she spent the last of her residuals from The Simpsonsnote .
  • The Unreveal: Glen and Glenda are only seen from behind at the end of the episode.
  • Vanity License Plate: The car Glen and Glenda arrive in has a license plate that reads "THEY THEM".
