Recap / Castlevania (2017) S4E2 "Having The World"

Go To

Tropes for this episode include:

  • And Then What?: Lenore asks Carmilla if she'll be happy once she has the entire world. After her Motive Rant, Carmilla concludes that she doesn't know, but she doesn't feel she'll ever be able to rest until she has everything and those she hates are dead.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Hector is first seen placing small stones in obscure places as he walks around Styria Castle. These will come into play a few episodes down the line.
  • Creepy Crossdresser: Played for laughs and heavily implied to be the case with the vampire sorcerer in Carmilla's employ; when Hector threatens him with possibility of telling Carmilla what the sorcerer is doing with her shoes, the guy's eyes go wide as he lets out a nervous grunt.
  • Drama-Preserving Handicap: Trevor and Sypha are experienced monster hunters and the night creatures would normally pose no threat to them even if they were ambushed. The only reason why they struggle is that they are tired from weeks of nonstop fighting.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: Carmilla accurately surmises that Hector is stalling for some reason and might have a plan of his own. He's not an easily cowed pet.
  • Establishing Character Moment: We are introduced to Zamfir coming in late to an ambush meant for her and brushes her companion's deaths off as a sacrifice worth making for Targoviste. She then makes a rather hammy declaration of camaraderie with them, while at the same time refusing to bring them to the Underground Court because she wants to observe them long enough to see if they're trustworthy.
  • Evil Is Petty: See Myopic Conqueror: Carmilla wants to conquer the entire world to satisfy her Irrational Hatred of men, and believes that she, and only she, can run the world "properly" instead of "fucking it up" like she claims everyone else did.
  • Genuine Human Hide: Ratko has a much more creepier interest in Trevor and Sypha than their combat skills.
Varney: What? You want to go down there and marry the two of them?
Ratko: I want to wear their skins.
  • Here We Go Again!: Trevor says the trope after finding himself and Sypha surrounded by Varney and his monsters.
  • Like an Old Married Couple: Hector and Lenore's relationship seems to have improved since the last season and they are bickering like an old couple.
  • Myopic Conqueror: Lenore begins to doubt Carmilla's true intentions when she finds out that she wants to rule the entire world out of spite.
  • Noodle Incident: Trevor says not to set the barn on fire. Sypha says it was one time and it was over a giant spider.
  • Off with His Head!: The hammer wielding vampire hunter gets his head bitten clean off. The sword wielding one gets his clawed off.
  • Sinister Scythe: Trevor uses a farm scythe as an Improvised Weapon to use against a monster. It works until it gets stuck, then broken off.
