- Alternate Universe: The episode takes place in one in its entirely except for the very last scene. In the timeline of this universe, "Henry Deaver" (The Kid) is the biological son of Ruth and Mathew who grew up to become a scientist in Boston researching dementia. Other differences includes Castle Rock being a far better off place, Zalewiski is alive and a cop instead of a prison guard, and Molly is happier and more successful.
- For Want Of A Nail: The version of reality we see throughout the episode is one where, among other things, Ruth left Mathew and Castle Rock, marrying Pangborn later on.
- Unreliable Narrator: Admittedly, the audience needs to take The Kid's story with a grain of salt since we don't truly understand who and what he is yet. Especially when you consider the alternate reality The Kid describes has some shades of wish fulfillment elements to it to it...
