Recap / Captain N The Game Master S 2 E 5 The Big Game

Go To

Dr. Wily discovers a way to harness awesome energy from people playing games. When the N Team's vacation on the world of California Games fails to generate the power he needs to get rid of them for good, he summons the football team from Kevin's high school on Earth for a winner-take-all game against his Robot Masters.

Tropes:

  • Academic Athlete: Despite having a super-nerdy hobby of mastering Nintendo games, we find out Kevin was also on the varsity swim team.
  • Battle Boomerang: Quick Man trots out his.
  • Beach Episode: For the first half or so, until Dr. Wily decides to raise the stakes.
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending: Everyone has a good chuckle when they hear the villains fell into the Landfill Zone during their escape.
  • Fantasy Helmet Enforcement: Probably the weirdest example ever. Mega Man puts on a helmet when he goes rollerskating. That is, he puts the helmet on top of the helmet he always wears anyway!
  • And I'm the Queen of Sheba: After hearing they've been sucked into a video game, one of the football players remarks "And I'm the king of California!" Lana doesn't know he's being sarcastic, and gives him a royal welcome.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Lana explains that when Kevin's real-world friends go back, they'll forget everything that happened to them in Videoland, as will happen to Kevin when he eventually goes home. It's a weird thing to just decide to throw in with how there are few ways it would factor into the story. At least since the episode doesn't seem to imply maybe Kevin will decide not to go home.
  • Muggle Sports, Super Athletes: The big football game of the title, where Mother Brain's team is made up of the Robot Masters from Mega Man 2, who crush the good guy team until they get some mechanical vehicles that even the odds.
  • Shout-Out: At the beginning of the episode, the N Team's watching a music video by all-zombie band The Ungrateful Undead.
  • Valley Girl: Cheerleader Stacey, Kevin's crush from before he met Lana (with whom she shares a voice actress).
