Carol "Captain Marvel" Danvers leads Alpha Flight, the Ultimate Avengers, and the Guardians of the Galaxy in battling another wave of Chitauri. The heroes manage to survive until the Chitauri are defeated, but Danvers knows that they won't win another fight, so they need to break the shield surrounding Earth immediately.

Back on Alpha Flight's satellite, Peter "Star-Lord" Quill criticizes Rocket Raccoon for putting something on his ship without telling him. Danvers comes in and talks to her crew, including Eugene "Puck" Judd and Walter "Sasquatch" Langkowski, as well as America Chavez and Monica "Spectrum" Rambeaux, and the Guardians. She compliments their fighting but Chavez and Rambeaux are skeptical of her hope that the Chitauri will soon give up on launching more attacks. Rambeaux suggests evacuating and forming a colony somewhere while they regroup and gather strength. Hopper enters in time to overhear and becomes irate, saying that Rambeaux's suggestion is tantamount to abandoning everyone on Earth. He says that Rambeaux might not care about anyone on Earth but other people do care, and when Danvers tries to calm him he says that real heroes wouldn't want to cut and run. He adds that the heroes should be ashamed of themselves for not saving everyone already. Danvers shuts him down and Hopper leaves, abashed. Danvers then orders Rambeaux and Chavez to talk with her privately.

In Danvers' office, Rambeaux and Spectrum propose that Chavez use her dimension-travel abilities to evacuate everyone to another dimension. Danvers refuses, saying she doesn't trust HYDRA to defend Earth from the Chitauri if the shield does come down. Danvers storms out and goes to the comatose form of Avril "Quasar" Kincaid, where she admits that she is responsible for everything that has gone wrong and begs Kincaid to wake up and help.

Cadets Dante Cruz, A'Di, and Glory enter the lab and see Abigail Brand analyzing the Chitauri attack patterns. The cadets look at the flight patterns and immediately see that all the attacks are aimed at one specific location on the Earth's surface. Meanwhile, Danvers goes to Hopper, who apologizes for his outburst and says he feels responsible for failing everyone because he couldn't figure out a way to burst through the shield. He sighs that Wendy Kawasaki would have been able to do it, and Danvers adds that they're only in their terrible situation because Steve "Captain America" Rogers talked her into building the shield in the first place. Danvers says they won't give up but she needs Hopper's help, and he agrees to support her.

Danvers gives a talk in which she says that the station will not survive another attack. The cadets and Brand deliver their findings and reveal that they've pinpointed the exact location the Chitauri are aiming for, which is likely where the Chitauri queen eggs are. However, as long as the shield is up the space heroes can neither attack the eggs nor transmit a message to anyone on Earth. Rocket Raccoon then says that he stole a nullifier bomb (the object Quill was complaining about being in his ship earlier), and Quill adds that they can use the satellite to drop the bomb onto the shield and set it off.

People begin to evacuate as other staff set up the nullfier bomb. Danvers thanks the crew for their service and says she's proud to be among them as the satellite drops and the evacuation craft scatter. The bomb detonates on cue just as the satellite hits the shield. However, the shield is too strong and remains standing. Brand begins cracking puns as Danvers apologizes to a picture of Kawasaki for her failure. At that moment, though, Kincaid enters the bridge. She has awoken and is willing to help. Kincaid says she heard everything Danvers said to her while she lay comatose, and her knowledge of Danvers' presence enabled her to fight off her coma.

Kincaid flies down towards Earth and punches the shield, destroying it but also obliterating herself in the process. Danvers notes that there is no time to mourn and flies to Earth even as her crew reports a new wave of Chitauri approaching. She manages to reach the eggs' location, an isolated farm, and destroys the eggs just before the Chitauri arrive. The Chitauri fleet then scatters. As soon as Danvers learns this, she opens a line to Kawasaki, who is grateful to have heard from her. Danvers says she'll find Kawasaki and bring her home.

Danvers arrives in rural West Virginia where Kawasaki was hiding out. Danvers thanks Kawasaki for sending a message to them, noting that she might have died without it. Kawasaki says she never gave up and knew that Danvers would come if she made contact. Danvers hints that the satellite was destroyed, which upsets Kawasaki, but then a spaceship lands and disgorges the cadets, Hopper, Judd, and Langkowski. Hopper gives Kawasaki flowers, which she loves. Meanwhile, Danvers flies to Washington to fight Rogers.

Tropes:
