"Lat 40* 47' N/Long 73* 58' W" or "Lat/Long," as it is frequently abbreviated, is the 3rd episode of Season 6 and the 120th overall. It originally aired October 9, 2009.
A janitor at Ellis Island is found hanged, and an antique compass has been left as a clue. Later, Mac receives a second compass in the mail, which leads to another victim. Both have notes expressing remorse near them, but both are ruled as homicides, not suicides. Mac hires a new part-time lab tech, leading Adam to worry about his job...again.

Tropes for the episode:

  • Arc Villain: The "Compass Killer" makes his first appearance here (see below).
  • Calling Card: The compass rigged to point south is left with the first victim. The one mailed to Mac points north. The team realize there will be two more victims if they don't catch this perp quickly.
  • Story Arc / Sequel Episodes: Although not featured in all of them, this storyline will ultimately conclude 7 episodes later with "Manhattanhenge."
  • Two-Faced: One side of the killer's face is disfigured. The cause will be revealed in the final episode of his arc.
