"Not What It Looks Like" is the 2nd episode of Season 3, and the 49th one overall. It originally aired September 27, 2006.

Synopsis:

A jewelry store is robbed by three identically dressed women. The mummified body of a politician's wife is found in a building being demolished.

Tropes for the episode:

  • Air-Vent Passageway: The thieves escape via a ventilation shaft.
  • Compact Infiltrator: The skinny college-girl jewelry thieves escape via a high-end store's ductwork. Since Lindsay is the smallest member of the team, she gets tasked with crawling through it to search for any evidence they may have left behind.
  • Corpse Temperature Tampering: The killer places the woman's corpse in front of an air conditioner in an apartment in a building scheduled for collapse in hopes that it will never be found, but that if it is, her time of death will be off, allowing him to formulate an alibi.
  • Cry into Chest: Out of relief that the dangerous undercover assignment she volunteered for is over, Lindsay cries into Danny's chest as he hugs her at the end of the episode.
  • Glass-Shattering Sound: When the glass jewelry cases burst open during the robbery, they can be heard breaking apart followed immediately by the tiny pieces raining down onto the floor.
  • Little Black Dress: The three women are dressed in Audrey Hepburn's classic "Holly Golightly" outfit.
  • Shout-Out: To Breakfast at Tiffany's, with the perps' dresses and a reference to the song "Moon River," which is used in the film.
  • Uncatty Resemblance: A witness recalls a dog whining at the crime scene which involves glass breaking due to high frequency sound waves. Danny brings a shaggy little dog into the lab to see if he can recreate the "noise," which he knows he himself will not be able to hear. Sheldon and Stella each comment on how much his dog looks like him. He grumpily tells her the dog's "a loaner."
