"Trapped" is the 11th episode of Season 2, and the 34th one overall. It originally aired December 14, 2005.
Synopsis:
Danny gets trapped in a panic room along with a murder victim. Can he collect enough evidence to solve the crime before the body decomposes beyond processing? A second case is that of a young woman found burned to death atop a Klieg light.Tropes for the episode:
- Bland-Name Product: Danny uses "Mighty Glue" fumes to expose fingerprints. He also runs across a drain cleaner called "Clog Away."
- The Butler Did It: Discussed by Stella and Flack. He lists the wealthy victim's hired help and the following exchange ensues:Stella: That's it? No butler?Flack: No.Stella: Too bad. I though we could wrap up this one up quick.Flack: What?Stella: In a mansion like this, it's always the butler.
- Ear Ache: The murdered man keeps his dead little brother's ear in a jar of formaldehyde.
- Fanservice: The episode opens with the young woman participating in a lube wrestling match. Her routine is a straight-up shout-out to Flash Dance.
- Lamp Shading: Danny calls Stella "Miss MacGyver" as she prompts him to find everyday things to use in processing the scene.
- Locked in a Freezer: A variation. Danny's life isn't in danger, but the evidence could degrade too much to be valuable to the case, due to lack of air conditioning in the panic room.
- Locking MacGyver in the Store Cupboard: Via intercom, Stella coaches Danny through old-school techniques using the resources available to him, including the aforementioned glue, a coffee pot, a cd case, and ink from a ballpoint pen. The victim, a known recluse, had planned ahead in case he needed to lock himself in for quite a while.
- Mud Wrestling: A variation with the lube wrestling matches.
- Shout-Out: In addition to calling Stella "Miss MacGyver," Danny tells her he thinks he's seen the methods she's suggesting on an episode of The Flintstones.
