Recap / Broken Princess Chapter V: The White Rabbit

Go To

Himiko uses super speed to carry Kitty and Nene out of the collapsing building and to a street far away, then falls over from exhaustion. She says she is out of Qi and needs food and rest to recover. The Kabutos move toward them, so the two help her walk away. Kitty says Pheasant is on her way. Nene asks Himiko how she knew he was a man, then interrupts himself to voice suspicions that she is a spy for a certain cult. She does not know what a cult is, so they explain that they are crazy people who worship evil and are trying to destroy their society. Himiko says from her point of view, their society is evil so these cult guys must be good. Nene shouts that the cult created and brainwashed her. Kitty tells him to shut up, but Nene is pissed and demands he tell the truth.

Himiko tells them to look up because in front of them is a giant woman in a mini-skirted officer uniform. She tells them to stay where they are until the Public Guardians arrive. Kitty says it is a Solomon Gate. Nene walks through her, confusing Himiko until Kitty explains she is a hologram or fake image. Nene walks until he disappears. Kitty does the same, but when Himiko tries to follow, she is stopped by an invisible wall. The others come back and explain a Solomon Gate is a force field that does not let anyone tagged by the nanobots through. The Kabutos, several Public Guardians, and flying machines close in on them. Kitty nervously assures the others that Pheasant is on her way.

On the Zenigata, Frost watches a recording of the Kabutos smashing the building and is displeased, asking which fool ordered that. A communications officer says the pilot of a Kabuto said something about zero tolerance for terrorists. Annoyed, Frost causes two hands to emerge from within the towel on her hair and grab the officer. The woman begs someone to save her, but no one does as the hands pull her into the towel until she disappears. Frost orders someone named Tahide to take over communications and tell the pilot to not do unauthorized things. She is relieved when she detects Himiko escaped the building. She calls Bass, who with Umpire-1 is on a lower deck impatiently waiting in front of a door. She briefs him on the situation and he scolds her for eating another crew member, but she retorts that the officer is fine and will come back once she lets her out. Frost says they need him on the field to keep trigger-happy idiots under control. He says he needs to do something first.

Bass calls to Schy'nder to hurry up. When she does not answer, he tries the palm reader to access the door, but does not work. He pounds on the door and yells at her to open it until Umpire-1 tinkers with the door to open it. When Bass enters, he is shocked to find himself in a cave with fountains of red water and golden sand, populated by living stuffed animals of various shapes and sizes. Schy'nder sits on a crystal throne, wearing a purple hooded cloak and praying. She wears a pendant of an eight-headed serpent, the symbol of the Order of Kushinnada. Bass is impressed by her clan's mastery of illusions. She says as a price for intruding on her sanctuary and interrupting her ritual, he has to marry her. He realizes she was joking.

He asks how she got involved in the Order of Kushinnada and she says they fill her with purpose. He tells her to remove her cloak, but she does not want to. She offers a wager: she'll remove it if she can capture Geppetto. She complains that the outfit he made her wear is embarrassing. Suddenly, her illusion breaks down, returning them to an ordinary room. Her cloak disappears, revealing she is wearing a baseball uniform much too big for her. He apologizes and gives her permission to change back to her regular clothes, and tells her to hurry since she is needed on the field. As she leaves, he expresses pride in her and Frost, but Umpire-1 smacks him and tells him to hurry up, causing the two to bicker.

As the Public Guardians get ready to attack, Himiko shoves Kitty and Nene through the Solomon Gate to protect them and prepares to fight. Unfortunately, she runs out of energy and faints. She flashes back to the battle of Edo. She was unable to defeat any of the Kabutos, Beat was dead, and Shippeitaro was missing. The only people she had left was her old nanny Yamauba, the Hare of Inaba, and his 108 samurai. Even with their help, she knows they cannot win. She got buried under rubble and was unable to move, praying for death.

Kitty and Nene return and help her up, but she is delirious at first. Suddenly, a mecha shaped like a bunny girl flies in and lands between them and the Public Guardians. Kitty celebrates, saying she came for them. The Public Guardians aim their weapons and one says the pilot is under arrest for obstruction of justice. The bunny releases a floating, basketball sized orb that floats toward Himiko. Kitty explains it is a Mochibon. It speaks, calling her princess, and she is shocked to recognize his voice as her sensei, Sojobo the Tengu King. Together with Kuzenbo the Kappa, Shuten-Doji the Oni, and Jurogumo the Spider Queen, they raised her, an orphan, to fight against all evil. Her adoptive parents all ascended to a higher plane and left defending Edo to her. She thinks Sojobo has returned to help her, but wonders why he did not help save Edo.

The Public Guardians try to attack, but the bunny releases the tech-disrupting glitter. Some of them manage to fly above it and open fire. The bunny engages them and the Kabutos with "rust blades" that can destroy them with one hit. The Mochibon begins scanning Himiko's body. She rages at Sojobo, asking why he only shows up now when everyone else in Edo is dead. He says he was not there, but now, she must be strong. She starts to cry and says she can't because she failed everyone. Suddenly, the ones paralyzed by the glitter start to move again. Kitty muses that they found a way to counter it. The bunny is wrestled to the ground by Kabutos and Public Guardians quickly put Himiko, Kitty, and Nene in the hard light cuffs. They grab the Mochibon too. The Solomon Gate's hologram thanks them for their cooperation and bids them good night.
