Recap / Broken Princess Chapter VI: The Door In The Sky

Go To

Himiko continues to cry as the Public Guardians cuff her wrists behind her back and her ankles together, then confiscate Kusanagi. Some of them carry her into a small flying machine called a spinner and carry Kitty and Nene to other spinners. They demand the bunny's pilot exit the cockpit, but the pilot refuses and does not say anything. As they carry the Mochibon away, she realizes that even if Sojobo could help her, it doesn't change the fact that everyone she knows is dead and her home is gone. She cries out Yamauba's name in anguish, but the Public Guardians cruelly mock her.

In a flashback, the Hare of Inaba and his cousin, the only ones left of their samurai clan, help Himiko out of the rubble and lead her to a Buddhist temple. Unfortunately, it has been burned down and the children that took shelter there are nowhere to be seen. They go to the still intact gate and open a secret entrance to a tunnel. She remembers how she used these tunnels to escape her palace and disguise herself as a commoner so she could blend in and make friends. She swears that after she regroups at her palace, she will defeat the invaders and not lose anymore people.

They exit the tunnel and reach a bridge to her palace. The invaders catch up and attack, so the Hare and his cousin draw their swords and fight. Himiko is about to when she hears a scream and turns around to find Yamauba trying to run from a spider tank, but falls due to her advanced age. Himiko runs to her at super speed, but is too late as the spider stomps on Yamauba, crushing her to death. Himiko falls into despair as the bridge collapses and she falls into darkness. She is brought back to reality as she is placed in a seat in the spinner and strapped in. She sees the Mochibon in the arms of an officer and pleads with Sojobo to help her, but there is no answer. The spinner rises and flies toward the Zenigata.

Frost's beauty treatment is done and she is pleased that the troublemakers have been captured. She tells Officer Hershey to get her boots because her feet are cold. Hershey protests that putting them on will ruin her pedicure, but Frost threatens to eat her if she does not obey. Frost orders the interrogation rooms prepped and to use a stasis beam on the bunny in case its mysterious pilot tries anything. Another officer says there are hundreds of tiny hostiles incoming.

Officer Asakura carries the Mochibon after hitting an off switch on it. Officer Bogard says he can't wait until they open the bunny and see what is inside. He is creeped out by the Mochibon but she says it is off and she'll use it as a toy for her niece. They receive a report of multiple hostiles incoming. The off switch suddenly falls off and the Mochibon comes back to life. Sojobo says he is coming for Himiko and flies away, then a swarm of hundreds of Mochibons arrive and use lasers to dismantle several Public Guardians' armor and several Kabutos. The bunny is freed and immediately engages the other Kabutos. All the Mochibon fly towards the spinners holding Himiko, Kitty, and Nene.

As the spinners fly above the Zenigata, Himiko is amazed and relieved to find the Moon is still intact and that the Leviathan Cruiser is not just a shadow. The Mochibons attack the spinner Himiko is in, making it spin out of control. They sprout arms and pull the Public Guardians out. Sojobo tells her not to give up because she has won. Incredulous, she says everyone is dead. He says she is not, but she has forgotten the difference between revenge and retribution. She screams that she hates this world of metal, monsters, and lifelessness. He carries her out of the spinner before it crashes into the Zenigata. She sees the city lights and changes her mind; this city has its own beauty.

One of her geta falls off her foot, but a Mochibon catches and returns it, though it struggles with the weight. Sojobo orders her to recite the Nemesis Code. Other Mochibon destroy her cuffs and return Kusanagi, then she is distracted by seeing reinforcements come out of the Zenigata. Sojobo tells her to ignore them and recite it, so she does. "Truth. That which cannot be disputed. Rectitude. Conformity to truth and righteousness. Courage. The ability to confront evil, the opponents of truth and righteousness. Benevolence. Kindness for all things great and small. Respect. Deference to all, even my adversaries. Loyalty. Eternal duty to the Code and its tenets. Purity. As an instrument of the Code, I can never be contaminated by the forces of evil. Retribution. Just punishment for evil rendered."

The swarm hides her from view and she vanishes. Schy'nder, riding in her Birthship, angrily realizes that the Mochibons have duplicated the tracking signal of the nanobots inside Himiko and are all emitting it, preventing them from tracking her. The Birthship uses Organic Technology, so instead of metal and traditional controls, the inside is full of fluid and tentacles and responds to her thoughts. She orders it to replay their first contact with Himiko and the fluid forms a replica of her and recites her words. She thinks there is nothing more beautiful than breaking the will of a fanatic and returns to the Zenigata, wondering why Himiko mentioned Edo, which no longer exists.

In a flashback, Himiko digs herself out of the rubble of the bridge, but the invaders are gone. She finds the corpses of the Shogun and his daughter Senhime, and the corpses of everyone else. She buries them all. The effort makes her hands bleed, but strangely, blue snakelike scales begin to form on her hands and feet. Sojobo brings her back to reality and tells her to understand that revenge is not the same as retribution. She wanted revenge by killing everyone in Yamato, but the citizens and Kitty and Nene are innocent. She is a light for all of mankind and has to be better. She asks where he is carrying her and he says to an old friend.

They pass through a triangle shaped portal in the sky and she sees what looks like a giant cherry blossom tree. They enter a hanger and see the bunny is opened and the pilot, who wears a white uniform and a face-concealing helmet, exiting it. The Mochibons are repairing the bunny and performing other tasks. Sojobo puts her down, but begins to spark as a bullet hole is revealed. He transforms into his true Tengu form and she hugs him, but he says he cannot be healed. He says she is the last survivor of Edo but the others will always be with her. She must continue to deal justice.

Kitty and Nene walk up and she hugs them. Nene asks her how she knew he was a man. A child's voice interrupts and explains Himiko can sense his Qi and determine his gender this way. She feels a Qi different from anything she has felt before as a little girl in a regal gown sits in a floating throne, accompanied by the bunny's pilot walks up. Himiko asks what is she, and the girl says she is a Bion. Nene asks why she revealed that so freely, and the girl says Himiko is a hero who helps everyone. She introduces her friends Shinsuke "Nene" Phenil and Kitty Sultana. The pilot reluctantly unmasks to reveal a muscular girl with short blue hair and glasses, Akira Ito aka Pheasant.

Sojobo says Himiko has a new mission. The girl introduces herself as Nadeshiko Son, daughter of Osamu Son. She is a Bion and her people are persecuted. She will help Himiko avenge Edo if she helps them. They are interrupted when Sojobo turns back into the Mochibon and it bursts into flames. As the other Mochibon extinguish it and carry it away, the others let Himiko weep. After she calms down, she agrees to help them. Nadeshiko then whistles and a familiar dog runs up. Himiko is astonished to see Shippeitaro again. Nadeshiko says she salvaged what she could from Edo and the dog was the only survivor. Himiko hugs him and thanks him for not leaving her alone. The others walk away and Nadeshiko welcomes her to Yamato, but they have a lot of work to do.
