"Missed Connections" is the 7th episode of the fourth season of Bosch.

Protesters continue to stand vigil outside of Hollywood station. Desiree Zealy, the student activist, calls for a mass protest on Sunday.

Bosch still continues to harbor doubt about Frankie Sheehan as the murderer, even after the ballistics match has come in. A bitter Sheehan says that he's being framed. To his fellow task force cops, Bosch wonders how Sheehan, who was visibly intoxicated that evening, could get in and out and commit two murders without being seen.

Honey Chandler, reviewing Elias's emails, sees that he was planning to show a video in court. It seems that a micro SD card adapter was found in Elias's briefcase, but the card itself is nowhere to be found. Bosch wonders if somehow Elias got hold of a video showing what the cops did to Michael Harris.

Crate and Barrel continue to investigate the case of the hit-and-run that killed Clifton Campbell. The gun found at the scene was stolen. They then get a big break when a woman comes to the station and says they have her phone, which she proves by dialing her number. Later, the driver of the SUV surrenders.

Bosch and Edgar, working on the theory that there was a camera at the junkyard where Sheehan and Drake tortured Harris, interview the owner. He refuses to admit that there was a hidden camera in the bathroom, but if there *was*, it eventually turned up missing.

In city politicking, Mayor Ramos is preparing to throw the LAPD to the wolves. Chief Irving goes to Bradley Walker and appeals for support. He hasn't forgotten about Harry's cold case, as he asks Walker to put the word out about the construction worker suspected of arson.

Maddie finally gets through to Reggie in Hong Kong and tells him the bad news. Reggie tells Maddie that the Chinese found out about Eleanor's investigation, and have confined him to Hong Kong on the suspicion that he's a foreign agent. Meanwhile, Edgar meets a reluctant Tiffany Hsu, who tells him about what happened at the card game and gives him some names.

Bosch remembers Frankie Sheehan mentioning the man he shot some years ago. Harry goes back to the LAPD evidence archive and pulls the box for that case. The bullet is missing. Bosch asks who was in the box last and it turns out that Amy Snyder checked out the box just two days ago.

Tropes:

  • Could Say It, But...: The owner of the junkyard refuses to admit that there was a hidden camera in the bathroom. Bosch says sure, but "if there had been one there", how often would the owner have checked it? The owner still refuses to admit to a camera, but says that if he'd had one, he would have checked it weekly.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Bosch, thinking about Sheehan's insistence that he was framed, remembers Frankie's story about shooting a suspect—and realizes there is a bullet matching Sheehan's gun in LAPD evidence.
  • Frame-Up: Frankie Sheehan insists that this is being done to him.
  • Glasses Pull: Drake admits to giving money to Sheehan while Sheehan was on the run. Robertson, who is wearing fashionable sunglasses, pulls them off as he asks Drake if he helped Sheehan on Friday night, the night Elias was murdered.
  • Molotov Cocktail: The tension outside Hollywood station gets a lot worse when someone in the protesting crowd throws a Molotov cocktail that hits Robertson and Pierce's car.
  • That's What I Would Do: Edgar and Bosch contemplate the grungy junkyard bathroom, wondering where the camera was. Edgar asks "Where would you put it?", and Bosch points to the mirror and says "Behind that." They remove the mirror and see that a hole has been patched up with drywall.
  • The Triads and the Tongs: Tiffany Hsu names the scary Triad gangster who showed up at the poker game and gave his comrade a beating.
