A burned corpse found inside a truck leads back to a local high school where the deceased (a student) was having an affair with one of his teachers. Meanwhile, Hannah tries to form a bond with Booth's son and Sweets helps Daisy with a government psychological exam.
Tropes
- Artistic License – Chemistry: The bones in question were "melted" by exposure to a magnesium fire. Magnesium burns at 5000°F plus which would have been more than hot enough to melt the bullet which was found intact within the skeleton (lead melts at 622°F, steel at 2500°F). Magnesium doesn't ignite by contact with rain and sunlight. It takes significant heat and no water. A direct flame is necessary, no water needed. Additionally; bones do not melt. In a high temperature fire; bone decomposes into calcium phosphate. Further burning of bone ash can cook off the phosphorous, leaving only calcium oxide that even burning magnesium would have difficulty melting.
- Double Standard Rape: Female on Male: Fully averted with the statutory rape of Randy by Kathy. As soon as it comes out, Sweets tells her it makes her a bad teacher and spells out that it could have driven the boy to murder.
- Parent with New Paramour: Booth's plot involves him trying to introduce Hannah to his son Parker. Parker doesn't like him having a new girlfriend at all and Hannah is terrified at the prospect of him not liking her since she's not good with kids. By the end of the episode, they're shown to get along fine, much to Booth's relief and Brennan's jealousy.
- Teacher/Student Romance: The entire case revolves around Hot Teacher Kathy and her affair with one of her students, Randy.
- Woman Scorned: The Villain of the Week ends up being Randy's on-again-off-again girlfriend Amber who's jealous of his relationship with their teacher Kathy Lyford. She seeks her husband George and tells him about the affair, hoping he'd be angry enough to kill his wife, but he doesn't. Then she attempts to seduce him to make Kathy angry, but he refuses her, which causes her to snap and kill him.
