Recap / Bones S 2 E 15 Bodies In The Book

Go To

Three men agree to kill for each other to give the most likely suspect in each murder an alibi. They copy methods outlined in a novel by Brennan, to make it look like a loony fan did it.

Tropes:

  • Asshole Victim: The murdered people are a Bad Boss, an abusive husband, and a constantly cheating wife.
  • Blatant Lies: Brennan denies being upset that the killer of the week's MO is copied from her novel. Her boyfriend, a former profiler for the FBI, sees through it.
  • Call-Back: One suspect was also a suspect back in the first episode where he was stalking the victim but wasn't the killer, apparently taking to stalking Brennan after the case. True to form he's not guilty here either.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: The whole concept of Brennan writing about the forensic anthropology adventures of Kathy Reichs, who wrote the original books about Temperance Brennan.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Downplayed with the Red Herring fan of Brennan. He is enough of this that security guards at her book signing events are given a photo of him, but Brennan herself has neither seen or heard from him in a while.
  • "Strangers on a Train"-Plot Murder: A rare trio. An overworked assistant who wants his boss's job, a man who's sister is being abused by her husband, a man married to a wealthy serial cheater collaborate to give each other perfect alibis for the murders they want to commit.
