Summary
Things only get worse for the Bones. Both Fone Bone and Thorn find themselves having strange dreams, while Phoney and Smiley get into an unwise bet with Lucius. While knowledge of the Great Red Dragon might turn Phoney's luck around, the secrets Gran'ma Ben has been hiding might be more than Thorn can handle...

- A Storm Is Coming: Literally and figuratively. A storm approaches when Lucius and the Bones leave the farm, and the seniors get word that another war is brewing. Fitting, given the volume's title.
- Cerebus Syndrome: It's in this volume that the story takes a turn for the darker.
- Death Glare: Gran'ma has a truly terrifying one when it's shown that she's been listening in on Fone Bone and Thorn's conversation about their dreams.
- Dream Walker: In the early chapters, Thorn and Fone Bone have odd dreams where the Hooded One has Fone Bone's head, and Fone Bone dreams of Moby-Dick where he's swallowed by the Dragon. The Dragon reveals that Thorn had a visitor in her dream, as did Fone Bone. "Welcome aboard, Ishmael."
- Ms. Exposition: Gran'ma Ben finally relays the truth she's been hiding to Thorn and Fone Bone.
- Wham Line: The Dragon's "Welcome aboard, Ishmael." is this to Fone Bone, who never said he was dreaming of Moby-Dick. The implication is that the Dragon entered Fone Bone's dream for some reason.
