• Acquired Error at the Printer: The Jerb Kazzaz Memorial Orphanage. The hedgehog owner is too stubborn to change it. Todd suggests to BoJack that Herb would find it Actually Pretty Funny that he couldn't even get this right. BoJack sadly agrees.invoked
• As Herself: Continuing a Once a Season Running Gag established in "Live Fast, Diane Nguyen", NPR host Sarah Koenig plays Diane's ringtone. The background music is reminiscent of the theme from Serial.
• Ashes to Crashes: Princess Carolyn's assistant breaks the urn with Herb's ashes right after Princess Carolyn offers it to BoJack.
• Chekhov's Gun: BoJack's boat, which he initially bought just as a cover story, gets put to use by BoJack to find Todd when he's out at sea.
  • Lenny was able to finish the movie despite BoJack going AWOL because he had the horse's face scanned in case this would happen in "Brand New Couch".
• Church of Happyology: The cult aspects of Shenanigags are revealed on the Giggleship.
• Continuity Nod: Copernicus reminds Todd that BoJack sabotaged his rock opera.
• Didn't Think This Through: Rabinowitz had only Princess Carolyn's name written on the agreement over their creation of VIM. After he gets under her skin and revealing that his own marriage issues were resolved behind the scenes, this bites him in the ass when PC decides to take the company for herself.
• Evil Orphan: Discussed. When talking about the orphans at BoJack's orphanage, Princess Carolyn says many orphans grow up to be serial killers.
• It Gets Easier: A jogger usually seen in the series gives BoJack some inspiring words while he was exercising:
  Jogger: Every day it gets easier. But you gotta do it every day. That's the hard part. But it does get easier.
• Sitting on the Roof: Mister Peanutbutter does this after his game show.
• Time for Plan B: BoJack's image is made into CGI to finish the Secretariat movie. The studio took the liberty of replacing his real life self in previous recordings.
• Wham Line: When Princess Carolyn suggests to BoJack that he meet Jill Pill, he still doesn't recognize that name. So Princess Carolyn tells him that she worked on his TV show.
  BoJack: What? Horsin' Around?
  Princess Carolyn: No, your other TV show.
  BoJack: What other TV sh— Oh, shit. Jill.
