- Hour Glass Plot: The episode starts with Son having to apologize to his dad after being too insensitive to his plans for them to bond. The end of the episode has Blark apologizing to Son after going too far.
- Jerkass Has a Point: As mean as Son is towards his father, he is absolutely right in that Blark goes way too far in his efforts to bond with him.
- Noodle Incident: Apparently Blark had sprayed rat piss on Son two previous times before.
- The Reveal: The titular rat was actually placed in the walls by Blark so Son would have to come for him to help get rid of it.
- Rodents of Unusual Size: The rat is almost as big as Son and Blark has to put it into a headlock in order to detain it. Blark says that he went overboard in bringing a "Burmese battle rat".
