While on a ski trip, things get out of control with Nick's new hateful attitude while Jay and Matthew bond.

Tropes:

  • Bittersweet Ending: On the sweet side, Matthew confesses to Jay and the two become a couple. On the bitter side, the Birches and Andrew's vacation is cut short after Nick causes an avalanche and breaks his leg, ruining Leah and Val's decent third time and Andrew's budding romance with a girl he won't see again. And Nick doesn't seem to care as he's focused on hating Walter.
  • Brutal Honesty: Maury straight up tells Andrew that he can't ski.
Maury: Andrew, I gotta level with ya bud. You are out of shape, you struggle with stairs, and you have a hard time pouring milk. You're going to kill yourself.
  • Call-Back: Val, like all of the Bilzerian children, is still spouting their father's terrible advice from his commercials when Val talks to Elliot about sex with Leah and we discover just how much he doesn't know about female anatomy and how to actually pleasure a woman.
  • A Day in the Limelight:
    • For Leah. A lot of the episode is about her and her new boyfriend Val having sex for the first time.
    • In a way for Val too, as the episode shows more of his awkwardness at sex instead of just being a bully to Jay alongside Kurt.
  • Lousy Lovers Are Losers: Played With when Val and Leah have Their First Time. He's quick and clumsy. When they're done, Val collapses next to her and claims it was amazing while a clearly unsatisfied Leah hesitantly lies to assuage his ego. Bonnie sums it up with "It was pokey and fast and chaos. He promised you a happy cry, but left you feeling crappy and dry." But since Val actually acts willing to please her, it's more portrayed as Leah failing to communicate to him on what she likes. Once they talk, they try again and it ends up being... a little better.
  • Mile-High Club: Bonnie suggests that Leah join this, but she refuses.
Leah: I'm not losing my virginity in an airplane bathroom. Besides, Andrew's already been in there, twice, and he had all that tomato juice.
  • Modesty Bedsheet: Val and Leah have sheets covering them from the waist up during the scenes they have sex, with Leah still wearing the top of her shirt.
  • Never My Fault: Nick tries to say that him breaking his leg and causing an avalanche wasn't his fault.
  • Post-Coital Collapse: Val rolls off and collapses next to Leah whenever they finish having sex.
  • Speed Sex: Val and Leah's first time is both quick and unsatisfying.
  • Spoiled Brat: Nick comes across like this, complaining about the luxury resort vacation he's "forced" to go on. Leah even calls him spoiled at one point because of his attitude.
  • Take That!: Matthew expresses disgust when Maury suggests that he take advantage of Jay hitting rock bottom.
"Do I look like a Republican congressman in an airport bathroom?"
    • Andrew's new girlfriend is Bernadette Sanders. As in Bernie Sanders. At one point, he says "Fuck you, Bernie Sanders!", as if that wasn't subtle enough.
Andrew: Maybe we could try again in four years?
Bernie: I don't know. I'll be pretty old.
  • Their First Time: Deconstructed. Since they're both virgins, Leah and Val's first time having sex is awkward. However, after they talk to each other about what they like, their second and third times go better.
  • Watch Out for That Tree!: Andrew's attempt to ski ends with him sliding on his butt into a tree.
