The second story of Volume 4 of Classic Doctors New Monsters (subtitled "Broken Memories"), it features the Sixth Doctor, Mel Bush, and the Clockwork Droids ("The Girl in the Fireplace").
The Sixth Doctor and Mel come to the rescue when they find a castle under siege from Clockwork Droids. But in a kingdom run with painstaking precision, time is running out for the Queen of Guyenne...
- A.I. Is a Crapshoot: Like the robots on the SS Madame de Pompadour, these robots have taken to try to repair themselves using components from the humans they were meant to serve.
- Bittersweet Ending: The Doctor and Mel confirm that New Guyenne has prospered for decades, but have to tell the colony's leader about the circumstances of his mother's death long ago.
- Failed a Spot Check: The Doctor berates himself for doing this after he realises that everyone they met was a robot, such as how Harbolt displayed great strength, even as Mel points out that there were alternatives for every clue.
- My God, What Have I Done?: The Doctor and Mel are horrified when the Doctor only learns that everyone on the planet was a robot after he used the Master Clock to transmit a deactivation signal that was meant to just stop the robots apparently attacking them.
- Tomato in the Mirror: Ultimately the Doctor and Mel realise that everyone they met was a robot locked in a loop.
