- An Arm and a Leg: The Emperor of the Racnoss and the Consort are both missing legs as part of their injuries, though for different reasons.
- Chronic Hero Syndrome: The Fifth Doctor tries to help the Racnoss Empress despite knowing the history of their people.
- Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: After witnessing the Racnoss in person, Alayna basically decides to leave the war with the Doctor, recognising that the conflict serves no purpose.
