- Characterization Marches On: Daria is more jovial in this episode compared to later ones. Notably, she whines when Mrs. Dickie teams her up with the boys; by the time she got her own series, she would merely snark about it.
- Deadpan Snarker: Daria when she has to deal with the duo.
- Dude, Not Funny!: Mrs. Dickie finds Butt-Head's project to be this, because it's based off of the Challenger disaster.
- Early-Installment Weirdness:
- Butt-Head's bedroom is shown in this episode. Later episodes do not depict either of the boys having one, sleeping exclusively on the couch instead.
- Butt-Head mentions that he learned everything he knows from his dad, whereas later episodes mention he's never met him.
- Embarrassing Nickname: The boys call Daria "Diarrhea" but not to her face.
- "Eureka!" Moment: Putting up with Beavis and Butt-Head's antics make Daria decide to do the project on whether idiocy is genetic or environmental.
- Farts on Fire: Beavis suggests as part of their project that they could have Butt-Head sit on a glass jar and fart. Daria doesn't think it's very scientific, until Beavis says they can light it.
