Ryan's Kryptonite poisoning is rapidly getting worse, making the need to find the Desert Rose all the more pressing. Meanwhile, Alice interrogates Tatiana about the gaps in her memories.
Tropes:
- All Love Is Unrequited: Tatiana for Safiyah, and Safiyah for Alice. Safiyah was NOT happy when she learned that Alice was seeing Ocean. For her part, Tatiana claims her hatred of Alice was purely because she saw her as a threat to Coryana's security, but Alice isn't buying it.
- Broken Pedestal: Ryan seems to view Angelique this way now, after finding out that she quickly got over her and is already seeing a new woman, even threatening to call the cops on her (as Batwoman).
- But for Me, It Was Tuesday: Alice doesn't know who Ryan is, nor does she recall killing her mother (or at least, witnessing the aftermath since her gang did the deed) even when given the exact date.
- Destroy the Evidence: Rather than take the map to Coryana, Safiyah's men simply burn it.
- Disappointed by the Motive: Combined with Let Me Get This Straight..., Alice obviously finds Safiyah's reason (jealousy of her relationship with Ocean) to mindwipe her ridiculous (although Ocean stealing a Desert Rose also played a part in her motives).
- Dropped a Bridge on Him: After the previous episode presented him as a possible member of the Big Bad Ensemble, Dr. Rogers and everyone else involved in trying to replicate the Desert Rose dies offscreen from testing a flawed synthetic version.
- Even Evil Has Standards: Tatiana reacts clearly shocked when she sees how casually Alice brushes off being manipulated into killing her former lover (off course, he isn't really dead).
- Fever Dream Episode: Ryan hallucinates things throughout the episode due to her worsening Kryptonite wound.
- Flashback: The episode is full with them, on account of Tatiana telling Alice about her lost memories.
- Heroic Willpower: Ryan's Kryptonite poisoning has reached her brain, but she insists on powering through it long enough to get revenge on Alice.
- Internal Reveal: Jacob finds out that Sophie knew about Mary's clinic. They also learn about Dr. Rogers.
- Laser-Guided Amnesia: Safiyah had her hypnotist remove Alice and Ocean's memories of each other. In the process, Alice became the vengeance-driven monster she is now, because all the memories of love and understanding about her situation were removed.
- The Last Dance: Facing impending death from her Kryptonite poisoning, Ryan becomes determined to track down and kill Alice.
- Man-Eating Plant: The Desert Rose only blooms when given blood.
- More than Mind Control: Turns out Saifyah didn't only have Enigma erase the connection between Ocean and Alice, she also had the latter's conscience suppressed, which led her to become the way she is.
- Mythology Gag: Saifyah's hypnotist is named "Enigma," an established DC Comics character who is the daughter of The Riddler himself.
- Never My Fault: Downplayed. Alice insists she isn't to blame for the death of Ryan's mother, as her goons acted on their own and she only showed up after. Ryan flatly retorts it's all Alice's fault, because she made them that way. Although, given there's no indication that Alice performed any sort of mind control on her goons and this is, after all, Gotham, where henchmen are a growth industry, it's hard to agree with her.
- Not Worth Killing: After being talked down from killing Alice by a hallucination of her mother, Ryan declares that Alice isn't worth it.
- Opposites Attract: Ocean and Alice initially hated each other.
- The Reveal: Safiyah not only had Enigma, a hypnotist, make Ocean and Alice forget about their connection, she also had the latter's conscience suppressed, turning her into what she is today.
- Title Drop: The episode's title is a note from Safiyah left with the ashes of the map.
- Tracking Device: Ryan slips one on Alice during their brawl. Once she goes to Coryana, they can follow and rescue Kate.
- Worf Had the Flu: Ryan's kryptonite poisoning gets so bad at one point that even Angelique is able to shove her off her balcony.
- You Are Too Late: Jacob and Sophie track down the doctors who stole the map to Coryana, but they're all dead from a failed attempt at duplicating the Desert Rose serum and Safiyah's men have burned the map with a note left behind to warn them against digging any further.
