Recap / Batman Wayne Family Adventures Episode 93 Alarm Bells

Go To

Bruce has spent the last twenty-four hours in the Batcave, and Alfred offers an incentive: if the kids can get him to stop working, he'll bake them cookies. They accept the challenge...and it's harder than they thought.

Tropes:

  • Arrow Catch: Cass tries to get Batman's attention by throwing a batarang at him. He catches it in mid-air without looking up, and reminds the kids not to throw weapons near the Batcomputer.
  • Batman Gambit: An example that gets performed on rather than by Batman. Dick admits that he knows Bruce could just restart the mansion's defenses with the Bat-Computer; therefore, he gave Damian a five-minute head start. Bruce could just reboot the system, let Damian go on patrol alone, and continue working, but it would go against the deeply-rooted Papa Wolf tendencies that Dick's known about since his own tenure as Robin.
  • Big Brother Worship: Dick gets a round of applause from the other Bat siblings (along with Sarcastic Clapping from Jason) when he manages to get Batman out of the cave. After living with Bruce for most of his life, Dick knows that nothing motivates him more than keeping his kids out of danger.
  • Continuity Nod: Once again, it's brought up that Alfred's cookies are the best in the world.
  • Death Glare: Bruce gives some pretty nasty glowers to both Dick and Damian for their parts in getting him away from the Bat-Computer. Neither of them is fazed in the slightest.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Downplayed; Jason may be a Destructive Savior, but Bruce ignores his threat to burn down the manor because Jason wouldn't do that if it would endanger Alfred.
  • Food as Bribe: Alfred talks the Bat-kids into pulling Bruce away from work by offering them cookies.
  • Friend-or-Idol Decision: Invoked by Dick as part of his plan. After Dick disables the manor's defenses, he tells the irritated Bruce that Bruce can either reboot the system using the computer and keep working or leave the computer and catch Damian before he leaves the grounds to go patrolling alone. He won't have enough time for the latter unless he heads off immediately. After a few moments of glaring, Bruce charges off to intercept Damian.
  • Frustrated Overhead Scribble: When Bruce gets to the kitchen and sees Damian eating cookies, a black scribble over his head shows his annoyance with being had.
  • Meaningful Background Event: While his siblings try to get Bruce off the computer, Dick is doing something on his phone in the background. After they've exhausted every idea they have, he reveals what he was doing — taking down the manor's defense network to force Bruce to go after Damian before he goes patrolling.
  • Papa Wolf: Weaponized. It's Dick telling Bruce that the perimeters were taken down and he has a limited amount of time to catch Damian before he goes on patrol alone that scares Bruce into getting up and going after him.
  • Punctuated! For! Emphasis!: As Duke and Cassandra are about to pour a bucket of ice over Bruce's head, he goes "Don't. You. Dare."
  • Reverse Psychology: Jason casually tells Bruce he's going to take the Batmobile for a joyride. Bruce lets Jason go ahead with it, causing Jason to stare in shock.
  • Secret Identity: Duke tries to scare Bruce by telling him that someone on the Gotham Gazette exposed his secret identity. No such luck. Bruce takes a quick look online and notes that the exposé is more of a rumor.
  • Symbol Swearing: Bruce unleashes a grawlix as he unwillingly dashes away from the computer.
  • Tempting Fate: After Duke tells them Alfred offered cookies in exchange for disrupting Bruce's work, Jason brags that he'll have the situation handled in nothing flat. His effort doesn't even get Bruce to look up.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Alfred's cookies are this for the whole family.
  • Workaholic: Batman. He's spent twenty-four straight hours at the computer and the kids have to use extreme measures to get him to stop.
