Recap / Batman the Brave and the Bold S 2 E 4 Aquaman's Outrageous Adventure!

Go To

  • And the Adventure Continues: AQUAMAN says he's all set to get back to their mundane vacation, but Mera and Arthur Jr. say they'd rather go on an adventure.
  • Badass in Distress: Batman gets captured by the Penguin. When AQUAMAN comes to rescue him, he gets caught too.
  • Blatant Lies:
    • When AQUAMAN's family sees a news video of him doing hero work on their vacation, he claims it's another, identically dressed hero called Ocean Guy. They don't buy it.
    • AQUAMAN pretending to have no idea that Batman lives in Gotham City.
  • Cold Turkeys Are Everywhere: AQUAMAN swears off acting on his Chronic Hero Syndrome, but finds his resolve tested when his trip makes him pass by several heroes fighting villains.
  • Daydream Surprise: The episode begins with AQUAMAN fighting the Fisherman, assisted by Fluke, who then, much to his surprise, starts speaking to him... in Mera's voice. Because she's trying to get him to pay attention to the road.
  • A Day in the Limelight: AQUAMAN and his family are the focus of the episode and Batman only has a couple of minutes of screen-time.
  • Distaff Counterpart: As a gag, AQUAMAN spots the Sportmaster taking his family on vacation. Artemis looks just as bored to be there as Arthur Jr. is.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Sportsmaster is taking Tigress and Artemis on a road trip vacation of their own.
  • Evil Gloating: Penguin gets a bit annoyed when the Aquafamily are so focused on what they're doing they ignore his villainous ranting.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: The map of the Aquafamily's travels has a lot of DC locales on it.
  • Funny Background Event: As AQUAMAN focuses on driving the RV, Sportsmaster can be seen in the neighboring car noticing him.
  • Hero of Another Story: AQUAMAN briefly witnesses several superhero fights related to conflicts that are unrelated to the main episode plot and that he knows nothing about, such as Red Tornado capturing the Top, Hal Jordan pummeling Doctor Polaris, and Atom briefly punching Bug-Eyed Bandit on the RV windshield.
  • Hope Spot: Seeing Doctor Polaris levitating the RV, AQUAMAN thinks he finally has an excuse to do some heroic action, only for Hal Jordan to chase the villain off. It happens again when he spots the Sportsmaster driving by, only to see that the guy is taking his family on vacation.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: Zig zagged. When caught helping out Blue Beetle, AQUAMAN says this is just what superheroes do. On the other hand, he acknowledges how (as a father and a king) he should keep his promises and set a good example for his son.
  • Motive Rant: The Penguin tries to do this when explaining his evil scheme, but AQUAMAN ignores him so that he can apologize to Mera and Arthur Jr. about getting them into this mess. Penguin gets sick of it when AQUAMAN and Mera share a moment.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: Each of AQUAMAN's exploits gets a Superfriends style title card, and when he dedicates himself to his family vacation, that gets one too.
  • Mythology Gag: The map graphic lists an assortment of places associated with superheroes, including Smallville, Ivy Town, Hub City, and Happy Harbor.
  • Off Screen Moment Of Awesome: AQUAMAN hears Penguin capturing Batman during a phone call, but it isn't shown how Penguin does it.
  • Pluto Is Expendable: Back when Planet Master was introduced in the comics, Pluto was considered a planet. The march of science means this is now no longer true, but try telling him that.
Blue Beetle: News flash: Pluto isn't considered a planet anymore!
    Planet Master: Insolence!
  • Road Trip Episode: The episode follows AQUAMAN and his wife and son taking an RV trip across America, stopping at various tourist traps, and struggling with the urge not to involve themselves in superhero fights.
  • Silence, You Fool!: Penguin's response to AQUAMAN demanding that Mera and Arthur Jr. be released.
  • So Proud of You: After Arthur Jr. says he wants another adventure.
Arthur Jr. I wanna see you save the world again! We'll call it "The Time My Dad Saved the World Again!"
    AQUAMAN: That's my boy!
  • Unwanted Assistance: Green Arrow is annoyed at a bored AQUAMAN's insistence on helping him fight some crooks he's capable of beating on his own.
  • Uranus Is Showing: After Planet Master begins listing off his powers, Blue Beetle tells AQUAMAN he doesn't want to see what Uranus does.
  • Villains Out Shopping: After several days of boring road trip activities, AQUAMAN thinks he may have an excuse to act on his Chronic Hero Syndrome when the supervillan Sportsmaster pulls up next to his RV. Then he sees Sportsmaster's daughter (who looks just as bored as AQUAMAN's son) and wife are in the car, as is a big stack of suitcases, and realizes Sportsmaster is on a family vacation just like AQUAMAN is.
