Recap / Avengers Assemble S 4 E 21 Weirdworld

Go To

To power up the Bifrost, the Avengers need Gamma energy, and who better to possess the right amount than the Incredible Hulk?

As Black Widow and Captain Marvel travel to the Weirdworld, a land filled with bizarre environments and creatures, they have two big problems: Without Bruce Banner, the Hulk is reduced to a savage beast, and after a lifetime of eternal struggle with his green counterpart, Bruce believes he should put an end to Hulk once and for all.

Tropes:

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Morgan le Fay. Spoiler alert for anyone who doesn't know their Arthurian lore.
  • Conflict Ball: Mildly between Carol and Nat. Carol thinks Nat is being unnecessarily terse and cryptic, while Nat thinks Carol is too talkative.
  • Eldritch Location: Weirdworld is... well... weird. Bruce seems to have gotten a pretty good handle on its oddness, like electricity generating trees, and plants that function as umbrellas against volcanoes (which seem to shoot off golden rain, not lava).
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: Not commented upon, but while separate, Hulk's hair is slightly wilder than usual, going back to its usual when he and Bruce remerge and patch things up.
  • Hope Spot: The Hulk and Bruce start talking, and it looks like Hulk's willing to make amends... then Bruce knocks him out and hands him over to Morgan anyway.
  • It Can Think: Initially, the Hulk without Banner seems to be purely mindless. It's only at the halfway point it turns out he is still able to speak.
  • Literal Transformative Experience: Being separated from each other allows Bruce and the Hulk to come to terms with one another, resulting in a Split-Personality Merge.
  • Obviously Evil: Morgan le Fay, the Evil Brit who lives in the Evil Tower of Ominousness and dresses in dark green and black turns out to be... not on the level! Whodathunkit?
  • Primal Stance: Hulk's posture when separate from Banner.
  • What Measure Is a Non-Human?: Morgan's horse-men minion things. Neither Carol or Nat seem remotely concerned about frazzling them in a fight.
