Recap / Avengers Assemble S 4 E 22 Westland

Go To

The Avengers have Heimdall's Sword but, to operate the Bifrost, they will need someone capable of wielding the swords power.

Hawkeye, Wasp, Vision and Loki travel to Westland to find Doctor Strange, who might be just the person to do it, but he wants to liberate a nearby town from rampaging robots.

Tropes:

  • Adaptation Personality Change: Comics Hawkeye is a major Wild West nut, and has even time travelled back there of his own free will on occasion. Here... not remotely.
  • "Awkward Silence" Entrance: Sort of. The awkward silence doesn't start until Hawkeye tries to chat to the locals. Then the all-consuming silence descends.
  • Bar Brawl: Pretty much obligatory with a saloon, and the inhabitants of Timely oblige. Doctor Strange even says they can't go a day without one.
  • Chairman of the Brawl: One guy tries hitting Vision with a chair during the bar fight. Since he can turn intangible, no dice.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Wasp's shrinking discs.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: The T-Rex.
  • Eye Scream: Thanks to being too close to an exploding robot, Hawkeye's vision is damaged.
  • Fantastic Racism: Thanks to the rampage Kree bots, the inhabitants of Timely are a mite suspicious of Vision.
  • Handicapped Badass: Being blind doesn't prevent Hawkeye from being an incredible shot anyway.
  • Holding Back the Phlebotinum: Doctor Strange can't and won't use magic to avoid attracting the Beyonder's attention.
  • Horse of a Different Color: Instead of horses, the people of Timely, and then our heroes, use semi-domesticated dinosaurs.
  • Noodle Incident: A wanted poster in the saloon offers rewards for Typhoid Mary and Moon Boy. While Mary's an easy guess, exactly what Moon Boy could've done is incredibly unclear.
  • Pokémon Speak: Groot, as per usual. Vision is able to work out what he's saying instantly and the two strike up a friendship. Cue several seconds of "I am Groot!" and "I am Vision" going back and forth.
  • Riding into the Sunset: Invoked by Vision, who notes this typically happens at the end of Westerns. They're not, since it's dusk already as the episode ends.
