Oh great, there's two of them now!

Taro: We attempted to discover Inu Brother's true identity.
But, while we were busy with that nonsense...
...my greatest rival was on the verge of reviving.

Sononi challenges Taro to a 2-on-1 showdown, which Taro accepts. In preparation, Sononi and Sonoza train against Don Murasame. Jiro hears of this and requests Taro for a spar. On the day of the duel, Taro fails to show up due to an outside interference. However Sonoi, whom should have been eliminated by Taro, shows up instead...!?

Tropes

  • Bookends: Taro and Sonoi's duel ended with Sonoi falling and being taken away by Murasame. This time, it's Taro who falls and is taken away by Dangerous Jiro.
  • Came Back Strong: The revived Sonoi is at the minimum Taro's equal, able to fight him on even footing, and ends up defeating Taro in their rematch duel.
  • Dark Reprise: To emphasize the Bookends, the song playing during the final clash between Taro and Sonoi is a somber piano rendition of their Image Song.
  • Diabolus ex Machina: Taro's duel with Sononi and Sonoza ends up getting interrupted by the arrival of Don Torabolt, GoGo-Ki, and a revived Sonoi in that order, which complicates matters even more than in #27. At least there are no Jūto to make things worse this time.
  • Evil Knockoff: Black Onitajin Murasame is its namesake: An evil, dark-hued Don Onitaijin.
  • History Repeats: Almost all the events this episode mirror the events of episode 27, to the point of multiple characters lampshading this and even Taro knowing what to expect based on the events that happened before.
  • Kill Steal: Sonoi's newfound power allows him to kill GoGo-Ki before Momotaro can even power up his Finishing Move.
  • Mêlée à Trois: The duel between Taro and Sononi/Sonoza turns into yet another five-way fight with the Donbrothers against Sononi/Sonoza/Don Murasame, Don Torabolt, GoGo-Ki, and a revived Sonoi.
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: For Sonoi. His infusion of Taro's energy didn't just brighten his personality but his combat potential too. His new crest also serves as an impromptu shield.
  • Mirror Character: Invoked. The revived Sonoi is essentially Taro if he were on the side of evil - kooky, over-the-top and very, very dangerous. He even arrives in the same exaggerated style Taro does - complete with dark-costumed palanquin-bearers and his own fan.
  • Non-Answer: When Jiro visits Jin and asks for the secret to Taro's strength, Jin says the secret is simply that "he is Taro." He does however imply that should the two Jiros become one, they can come close.
  • Rule of Three: This is the third time Minoru Ohno returns as a Hitotsu-Ki, this time as GoGo-Ki.
  • Significant Wardrobe Shift: To cement the source of his return, Sonoi's hair and collar have red plumes sticking out. As Sonoi Kyokatai, his Brace now had a gold hue to it with a red jewel as the core. He even gets his own Transformation Sequence.
  • Wham Shot: A lightning bolt strikes and reveals a revived Sonoi complete with a palanquin and retainers a la Don Momotaro.
