Tropes:

  • Analogy Backfire: When Willy Tybur praises the statue of Helos, referring to it as "Marleyan spirit incarnate", Magath points out that the statue is also completely hollow.
  • Armor-Piercing Response: Magath confronts Willy over Marley's violent path, correctly guessing that he is the true power behind the country. He admits that the Tyburs have controlled the nation, but the decision to become a militaristic empire was made entirely by Marley itself.
  • Bait-and-Switch: We see an elderly doctor talking to a handicapped young man in a hospital, which looks for all the world like physiotherapy going on. Turns out it's the older man who's the mental patient, while the young man is a deep undercover Eren Yeager.
  • Dramatic Irony: Mr. Yeager tells Eren to go home to his family, or he will regret losing his chance to see them again, not aware that he is talking to his own grandson.
  • Everyone Can See It: It's implied everyone can see that Falco has a crush on Gabi, except for Gabi herself.
  • Foreshadowing: At the end of the episode, Gabi tells her cousin she thinks something big is going to change soon. In the next episode, the raid on Liberio begins.
  • Hypocrite: Magath believes most Marleyans are this, as they are fine with war as long as the ones dying on it are Eldians or people from conquered nations forced into military service. The reason he would like to implement a draft of Marleyan citizens is because he wants the population to realize that War Is Hell and for Marley to stop starting pointless wars with other nations.
  • It's All My Fault: Mr. Yeager almost says this word by word to Eren, as he blames himself for Grisha being sent to Paradis Island.
  • Multigenerational Household: From what the audience gets to see from the Tybur family, they are this, with two generations of adults living under the same roof.
  • Nice to the Waiter: After Udo accidentaly spills wine on Kiyomi Azumabito's kimono, she tells him to not make a scene and then lies and says she spilled the wine herself and that Udo was helping her to wipe it up. She does this fully knowing Udo is an Eldian and that he could have got into big trouble for ruining her clothes.
  • Sanity Slippage: The audience learns that, by this time, Grisha's father became insane and is commited to the medical facility in the internment zone.
  • Universally Beloved Leader: Lord Tybur is absolutely adored by the international community, with the officials greeting him warmly and referring to him as the descendant of their "savior". While the Marleyan officials are tolerated and the Eldians treated with open contempt, Willy is the life of the party.
