Tropes:

  • Armor-Piercing Question: While Mikasa tries defending Eren to their friends Connie tells her that Eren laughed when Sasha dies and asks her what he could have found so funny. Mikasa has no answer to that question.
  • Cardboard Prison: Eren states to Hange point blank that with the power of the War Hammer Titan no prison could possibly hold him and he can escape anytime he wants.
  • The Chosen One: Discussed. Mikasa, Jean, Sasha and Connie discuss who should inherit Eren's Titans, once he only has five years to live.
    • Mikasa volunteers, but Jean points out that they're still not certain of what her being an Ackermann really means, and they don't know how such event would influence the relationships between Paradis and Hizuru, so it would be a bad idea having Mikasa inheriting Eren's Titans.
    • Jean also volunteers, and talks up how he is smarter and wiser than Eren, to which Connie states that they wouldn't want to lose someone like him in thirteen years.
    • Connie volunteers himself, but Sasha retorts by saying the Titans can't be trusted to an idiot like him.
    • For last, Sasha says she should inherit the Titans, but Connie tells her how much of a bigger idiot than him she is.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Discussed trope. Jean, Connie, Mikasa and Armin debate the possibility of having to kill Eren as a last resort, if he chooses to side with Zeke over them. Not helped by Eren's shift in personality, which is making his friends have doubts about what he thinks, or plans to do.
  • Funny Background Event: During the flashback to Squad Levi building the train tracks Armin can be seen chasing after Sasha who is hogging all of the water for herself.
  • Inadequate Inheritor: Hange feels this way about being the new leader of the Survey Corps, saying that the one mistake Erwin ever made was putting her in charge.
  • Luminescent Blush: Eren and his friends all start blushing after Eren tells them that he wants them to live long lives because they are special to him. After Armin tells an embarrassed Jean that the sun is the reason their cheeks are so rosy he decides to go with it.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Things with Eren have gotten so murky that Armin seriously considers the possibility that they may have to eat Eren and take away his Titans which shocks Mikasa.
  • Only in It for the Money: The Azumabito's are apparently well known for being money grubbers to the point that Kiyomi actually licks her lips at the thought of all the money they could make from the Iceburst stone. Unfortunately this leads to Hizuru denying the Paradisians access to other countries since they want to monopolize on the trade between their two nations.
  • Pet the Dog: In the flashback, Eren states that he wouldn't like it if any of his friends inherited his Titans upon his death, because he loves them and wants them to live long lives. Doubles as a Tear Jerker since one of the people he told this to is Sasha, who already died two episodes ago.
  • Really Royalty Reveal: Lady Azumabito states that Mikasa might descend from members of the old ruling family of the shogunate of Hizuru that became stranded on Paradis.
  • Super Breeding Program: As part of his three point plan to protect Paradis, Zeke states that one of the conditions is that Historia must continually produce heirs that can inherit the Beast Titan so that there will always be a Titan of royal blood to activate the Founding Titan. Eren is enraged to think that after everything part of Zeke's plan involves breeding like cattle.
  • True Companions: Other trope that gets discussed here; When debating the possibility of having to kill Eren, Mikasa says that Eren cares about her and his friends more than anyone else, to which Jean answers that that's not true anymore, as Eren used to try keeping Mikasa off the front lines, but now he made Armin destroy a port and pulled Mikasa and the rest of the Survey Corps into the raid on Liberio. Mikasa tells them that it is because Eren trusts them, to which Connie answers that if they had not gone, Sasha would still be alive.
