While trying to celebrate both Christmas and Hanukkah, Ginger loses her holiday cheer. Hoodsey tries to prove to Carl that there is a Santa Claus.

Tropes:

  • Blowing a Raspberry: Brandon does this to Hoodsey after throwing a snowball at him for shooing him off while he was trying to talk to Santa.
  • Christmas Episode: Combined with a Hanukkah Episode. Ginger decides to celebrate both Christmas and Hanukkah out of fairness to both holidays.
  • Cultural Personality Makeover: Ginger finds a photograph of her maternal grandfather in an album and realizes she's one-quarter Jewish. Upon discovering this, she asks her family to celebrate Hanukkah in lieu of celebrating Christmas that year, until her friends declare she's taking the whole Jewish thing too far and Ginger hastily corrects this so she can celebrate both at the same time.
  • Disappeared Dad: The reason Carl doesn’t believe in Santa is because his Christmas wish when he was little was for his dad to come home for the holidays and it never came true.
  • Doesn't Know Their Own Child: Jonas is so out of touch with his children’s lives that his Christmas gift to Carl is peanuts, which he’s violently allergic to. Carl even sarcastically comments on how little the two know about each other when Jonas asks him to sit in his truck with him.
Carl: I would but, see, my mom always warned me about getting in a car with a total stranger.
  • Dramatic Irony: Hoodsey asks a bell ringer in a Santa outfit to grant Carl’s wish of his father visiting him on Christmas without knowing that the man actually is Carl’s dad.
  • Feud Episode: Carl and Hoodsey’s differing views on the existence of Santa Claus threatens to ruin their whole friendship.
  • Hanukkah Episode: Combined with a Christmas Episode. Ginger discovers her Jewish heritage and wants to celebrate Hanukkah. However, not wanting to turn her back on Christmas, she decides to celebrate both.
  • I Can't Dance: Hoodsey is such a bad dancer he actually asks Santa to give him rhythm.
  • It Tastes Like Feet: Carl catches a snowflake on his tongue and says it tastes like snakes.
  • Political Overcorrectness: After realizing she abandoned Christmas in an effort to connect with her Jewish heritage by celebrating Hanukkah, Ginger becomes overly concerned with making sure that both holidays (and any others their guests may be celebrating) get honored evenly at their party. It stresses her out so much that she can’t even fully enjoy the celebration.
  • Running Away to Cry: Dodie runs out of the classroom crying after she accuses Ginger of turning her back on Christmas and, thus, her as well.
  • Santa's Existence Clause: Carl doesn’t think Santa is real, so Hoodsey makes it his mission to get Santa to grant Carl’s Christmas wish.
  • Still Believes in Santa: Hoodsey still believes in Santa and Carl, despite all the other strange things he believes, does not.
  • Toilet Humor: With Darren’s help, Carl rigs up a Christmas light reindeer that lifts its leg to pee.
  • Too Unhappy to Be Hungry: Hoodsey pushes his smiley face pancake away while worrying about Santa not being real.
  • True Meaning of Christmas: Ginger learns that it doesn’t matter what holiday she celebrates, as long as she gets to spend it with her loved ones.
  • Wham Line: When Jonas’ fellow bell ringer calls out his last name, “Foutley”, revealing that he’s Carl’s dad.
