Breezy Listening Blues

When Brain gets a lower grade than usual on a test, he blames it on his parents' CD.

Tropes

  • The B Grade: The episode revolves around Brain getting a B- on a test and freaking out. When he reviews everything he did before studying, he realizes that his parents played new music in the ice cream shop, which he thinks is the cause of it.
Brain: But it's only one grade above a C-plus!
  • Completely Off-Topic Report: Implied. When Mr. Ratburn gives Muffy her report back, we hear him reminding her that "Caesar Augustus was a Roman emperor, not a summer salad."
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Brain is a fan of Koko Taylor, which was established in "Big Horns George".
    • The music Molly plays is Mütakrüde from "The Law of the Jungle Gym".
    • "Lights, Camera... Opera!" revolved around Muffy learning that opera is actually pretty cool once she hears Rodney Gilfrey. In this episode, she still likes him and plays one of his CDs.
    • Francine plays her song from "Arthur, It's Only Rock 'n' Roll." Arthur and Buster object and sing their own song from the special.
  • Exact Words: Brain has the Tibbles do a test and put shaped blocks into a toy with holes in it. When the test starts, they throw all the blocks into the garbage bin.
Tommy: I'm putting the shapes in the hole. Isn't that what you wanted?
  • Knows a Guy Who Knows a Guy: Molly has an unreleased album because her friend's cousin knows the band's ex-drummer.
  • Opening Shout-Out: The Breezy Listening music is a gentle elevator-music version of the Arthur theme song. Lampshaded when Arthur says, "I know that tune from somewhere."
