Carl's Concerto

Carl agrees to play the accordion for George's puppet show, but his routines may get in the way.

Tropes for "Carl's Concerto" include:

  • A Day in the Limelight: This episode focuses on Carl and George.
  • Nightmare Sequence: George has one in which his and Carl’s performance goes horribly with the crowd heckling them and Mr. Ratburn confiscating Wally.
  • Hidden Depths: One of the puppeteers George recruits for his puppet show is Rattles of all people. He appears to take his craft quite seriously as well.
Rattles: To be honest, I don’t find Mama Bear that challenging. She’s very passive.
  • Talent Contest: Of a sort. While not a contest, D.W invites George to perform with his puppet Wally at her school’s talent showcase.
  • Very Special Episode: This episode educates kids on having a friend with autism. It shows that just because they may act differently sometimes, it doesn’t mean that they don’t want to make friends and have fun just like everybody else.

Buster enlists Binky's help to prevent him from eating delicious chocolate cookies.

Tropes for "Too Much of a Good Thing" include:

  • Big Eater: As shown by some photos Arthur took, Buster ate an entire box of Tuvalunas in one sitting.
  • Bland-Name Product: Tuvaluna cookies, sold by Kit Scouts troops, refer to the Girl Scouts cookie Samoas, both being cookies coated in coconut, caramel, and chocolate (although Samoas do not have nuts) and named after Polynesian nations.
  • Call-Back:
    • Binky can't eat the Tuvalunas because they contain cashews and he has a nut allergy, previously established in "Binky Goes Nuts" and "Big Brother Binky."
    • Rattles brings up his lactose intolerance first mentioned in "Brain's Chess Mess"
  • The Caper: Buster enlists George to carry out an elaborate plan to get his Kit Scout cookies back that involves a decoy box made by George and several distractions made by Buster.
  • Collector of the Strange: Buster adds his last Tuvaluna to his collection of molding food.
  • Convenient Photograph: Buster doesn’t believe Arthur when he says he always scarfs down the entire box of cookies minutes after he buys it. Strangely, Arthur then produces two pictures - one of Buster right after buying the cookies, and then one of him looking quite sick after rapidly eating the whole box. Why Arthur has these pictures in the first place is a mystery.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Buster’s behavior when he goes to get his daily cookie is that of a strung-out drug addict getting his fix.
  • Furry Reminder: Buster refers to George as a moose.
  • Go Fetch: Pal plays fetch with a stick-throwing machine in the episode's Cold Open.
  • Limited Wardrobe: Buster Lampshades Arthur’s limited wardrobe when he picks out his outfit for the day, which consists of the same clothes he wears every episode.
  • Meat-O-Vision: Buster is craving Tuvaluna cookies so badly that he begins to hallucinate them during math class.
  • Not on the List: Rattles, acting as the bouncer for the Tower of Pain, says this when Buster asks him permission to go up.
  • Running Gag: Rattles acting like he doesn’t know who Buster is each time he tries to get up the Tower of Pain.
  • Scenery Censor: While Arthur is changing out of his pajamas, Buster lifts up his arms in excitement and preserves Arthur’s decency.
  • Scout-Out: Buster is so excited at the beginning of the episode because the “Kit Scouts” are selling cookies.
  • Serious Business: Binky takes his role of doling out Buster’s daily cookie very seriously.
  • Twitchy Eye: To illustrate how too much of a good thing can be bad, Arthur wonders what if D.W watched her favorite show “Mary Moo Cow” all the time. D.W is then shown sitting in front of the TV with her eye twitching.
