Recap / Arrested Development S 5 E 14 Saving For Arraignment Day

Go To

Buster's trial begins, and the Guilty Guys plead guilty. When Michael says they wanted to plead not guilty, they immediately leave. But Barry tells George and Lucille he knows one lawyer whom the DA Lottie Dottie is afraid of: her ex, Dustin Radler, whom Lucille is dating. She immediately decides to hire him to rattle the DA and make her call for a mistrial. Michael, who had been recently fired from both the Bluth Company and Fakeblock by George Michael, meanwhile tries to handle things himself, but after realizing he doesn't have any real evidence of Buster's innocence (the calls from Lucille 2 he had been ducking earlier were automatic messages), changes his mind.

GOB invites himself to the unveiling of the wall prototype, offering to do a magic show.

Trying to get rid of Tobias and his makeshift family, Maeby gets herself voted out from Stan Sitwell's house instead.

The Arrested Development episode "Saving For Arraignment Day" provides examples of:

  • Comically Missing the Point:
Michael: I told Gob, when it comes to the foot, that mum's the word.
    [later]
Gob: You get sent one severed foot from the Chinese and, all of a sudden, you turn into a crybaby.
George Michael: The Chinese sent my dad a severed human foot?
Gob: Yeah. Although they call it a "mum". Mum's the word for "severed human foot" in Chinese.
  • Generation Xerox: George Michael and Maeby's discussion about building the wall echoes conversations about charity Michael and Lindsay would have in earlier seasons, and ends with them calling each other "a minimally-woke Uncle Michael" and "a slightly self-aware Aunt Lindsay".
