Recap / Archies Weird Mysteries Me Me Me

Go To

Mr. Lodge, concerned about his daughter's spoiled attitude, orders her to pack up some artifacts he's donating to a museum as a lesson. Fuming, Veronica wishes everyone knew how hard she has it. Unfortunately, the artifact she was packing at that point can grant wishes, and soon everyone begins changing into Veronica.

This episode includes examples of the following tropes:

  • All Just a Dream: Veronica knocks herself out running into a statue and when she wakes up, she thinks the whole mess was just a nightmare...until Archie starts acting like her as well.
  • Answer Cut: As Betty and Archie look at the brochure showing the wish-granting artifact, the scene cuts back to Veronica, who's packing it and is about to make the ill-advised wish.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Veronica wishes everyone were like her. When everyone begins turning into her, she's confronted with her flaws and quickly wants to undo the wish.
  • Clone by Conversion: Veronica accidentally causes everyone in Riverdale to start turning into duplicates of herself after making a misguided wish that everyone was more like her. By the time Veronica reverses it, the whole town is filled with snobby teenage girls and even Archie and Betty have started to act like her.
  • Death Trap: The idol was originally surrounded by surprises to kill potential thieves; an effect expertly recreated by the museum the gang needs to retrieve it from. Why the staff did this is a good question.
  • Excited Episode Title!: The title has exclamation points to represent how Veronica focuses on herself, or going, "Me! Me! Me!"
  • Evil Laugh: When introducing the title of this episode, the narrator punctuates it with one of these.
  • Faint in Shock: Archie passes out from shock after seeing Veronica and the Veronica-ized Pop Tate at once.
  • Gender Bender: Everyone starts turning into Veronica after the wish, including the men.
  • Literal Genie: Veronica wishes "everyone was exactly like her" while holding a wish granting idol. The result is everyone in town slowly transforming into exact clones of her. It turns out the idol itself isn't even sentient and the day is saved when Veronica figures out what happened and wishes for everything to be back to normal, but not before getting a good harsh look at just how annoying and whiny she is and learning to be a better person.
  • Lover Tug of War: Veronica and the Veronica-ized Pop Tate both pull on Archie's arms until Betty stops them.
  • Me's a Crowd: Veronica accidentally makes a wish that starts turning everyone in Riverdale into duplicates of herself. After a few hours, almost everyone in town has turned into Veronica, and by the time the original undoes her wish, Archie and Betty are also showing psychological signs of the transformation.
  • Monster of the Aesop: Veronica refusing to acknowledge her spoiled attitude (admittedly, not rare) coincides with her accidentally making a wish that turns everyone in town into her — vanity, Skewed Priorities, and all.
  • Shout-Out: Veronica's comment on being forced to evade the museum's death traps:
Veronica: Just a reminder; I'm a normal rich teenage girl, not a barbarian princess.
  • Tempting Fate: After Pop Tate refuses to make more burgers and starts messing with his nails, Archie says that at least things can't get stranger. He comments that he has to stop saying that after things predictably get weirder.
