Recap / Archer S 13 E 2 Operation Fang

Go To

A mission in the jungle leads to usual Agency problems.

Episode Tropes:

  • An Arm and a Leg: Ray gets one of his robotic legs ripped off by a hippo.
  • Artistic License – Arachnids: The spider that bites Ray is implicitly a Phoneutria or Brazilian Wandering Spider based on its shape, eye arrangement, red chelicerae, and Ray's priapism. But despite doing shockingly well with that, not even the "most venomous spider in the world" would bite someone just for the hell of it.
  • Asshole Victim: Ray screwed everyone over last episode, allowing them to give him a hard time during this episode's mission, even if it leads to him losing his cyborg leg to a hippo and is nearly killed by snakes and spiders.
  • Back for the Finale: Humorously, the tapir Archer befriended shows up at the end, somehow having traversed the deserted island the team was trapped at the beginning of the episode.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: In-Universe. For whatever reason, the men have a perfect replica of the Taj Mahal as their base of operations in the middle of the jungle, something Archer lampshades.
  • Bilingual Bonus: “Our long nightmare is over! I have captured the goat kisser!” (”¡Nuestra larga pesadilla se acabó! ¡He atrapado al besa-cabra!”)
  • Exact Words: Fabian promises an extraction after the team acquires the target item; in this case, a briefcase. He sends a helicopter to extract the briefcase, but not the team, and excuses it as to drop it off in an undisclosed location.
  • Good All Along: The men that the Agency have been fighting in this episode turn out to have killed their warlord leader months ago and have since been using their resources to distribute medicine to the surrounding villages.
  • Humiliation Conga: Ray goes through getting multiple insults by everyone in his team, getting bitten on the left side of his face by a snake, getting his right leg ripped off by a hippo, and then getting a spider to bite the right side of his face (for no real reason).
  • It's All About Me: After leaving Pam alone and getting her kidnapped by the rebels, Lana accuses Archer of not caring about the gang for their well being. Stung by that, Archer goes out of his way to prove he cares.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Turns out the men The Agency come to blows have personally killed their enemy leader in a mutiny, but they only decided to attack the team because The Agency struck first and forced them to defend themselves. Even after the dust is cleared, most of the men end up getting killed.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: At one point in her rant, Lana accuses Archer of only becoming a spy to please Malory. Naturally, he does not take that well.
