Go To

Airdate: November 2, 1993

Opening Line: "Dana Delany"- Yakko

NOTE: On the DVD set this scene mistakenly uses the scene of Dot saying "Here's the Show's Name-y" but with Yakko's voice singing "Dana Delany"

Tower Escape: Yakko, Wakko, and Dot sneak out of a giant hose

Chairman of the Bored: The Warners find themselves trapped in the endless monologue of Francis "Pip" Pumphandle.

Planets Song: Yakko sings about the planets in our solar system.

Astro-Buttons: A Buttons and Mindy short IN SPACE.

Tower Return: Warners return to the tower using a giant trampoline

"Chairman of the Bored" provides examples of

  • Aside Glance: After getting tricked by Yakko to talk to Pip, Dot turns to the audience and says, through clenched teeth, "I am going to hurt my brother badly."
  • Can't Live with Them, Can't Live Without Them: Throughout the episode, the Warners are followed around by Pip, who continually tells a long, rambling story in a monotone voice. No matter where they run, they can't get away from him. Finally, at the end of the episode, he suddenly finishes his story and leaves. The three of them just sit in stunned silence for a few minutes, then declare "It's too quiet!" and go running after Pip, begging him to come back.
  • The Cat Came Back: The Warners get a taste of their own medicine when trying to escape "Pip"'s droning.
  • Curse Cut Short: Not exactly a swear, but after believing they escaped Pip, the Warners chant, "Free at last, free at last, thank G—AAAAAAAAHHH!"
  • Motor Mouth: "Pip" just won't stop talking.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: There are plenty of celebrity caricatures at the dinner party. Among them are Meryl Streep, Dustin Hoffman, and Michael Richards, thus creating the Stealth Pun Kramer vs. Kramer Vs. Kramer!
  • Shout-Out: To Oliver!:
Dot: Please, sir, can I have some more?
    Yakko: MORE?!
  • Special Guest: Ben Stein (in full-on "Bueller? Bueller?" mode) as Pip.
  • Talking with Signs: After Yakko says "That's so interesting", he holds up a sign to the audience that says "NOT!". Also, Dot attempts to hold up a stop sign, a traffic signal flashing red and a railroad crossing to get Pip to shut up.

"Planets Song" provides examples of:

  • Uranus Is Showing:
Yakko Warner: There you go, that's our solar system.
    Wakko Warner: You forgot Uranus.
    Yakko Warner: Good NIGHT, everybody.

"Astro-Buttons" provides examples of:

  • Accidental Astronaut: Mindy sneaks into a rocket launch area and she and Buttons get launched into space on a rocket.
  • Badly Battered Babysitter: Buttons. He gets hbis head shrunk when he goes through the suit-o-matic too fast and has to inflate it with a bicycle pump, falls down a high ledge, gets his tail caught it the doors to the transporter room, just barely manages not to get zapped by Captain James Kirk and Spock, gets his body swapped with Mindy's, tumbles down a flight of stairs, gets his body caught in the elevator door leading to the rocket launch area (and his butt keeps getting hit by the different floors, gets burned by the rocket's tail flame, gets hit by meteors, crashes through the rocket's hull, and just barely manages to get himself and Mindy off the rocket before it explodes.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Mindy makes it home safely, but gets into the duplicator, creating clones of herself. Mindy's Mom scolds Buttons for allowing it to happen, but this time, Buttons gets the last laugh by handing Mindy's Mom a sign that says "I QUIT!", and leaving her to deal with the Mindy clones by herself. All the Mindy clones tell Buttons that they love him.
  • Chasing a Butterfly: Mindy chasing her ball is what sets off this episode's plot.
  • The Dog Bites Back: A half-literal example; After Mindy's Mom scolds Buttons for allowing Mindy to get into the duplicator and make clones of herself, Buttons hands her a sign that says "I QUIT!", leaving her to deal with the Mindy clones by herself.
  • Oh, Crap!: Buttons has a Jaw Drop reaction to seeing a ton of Mindy clones.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: When a duplicator makes a ton of Mindy clones, Buttons grabs a suitcase, holds up a sign that says "I QUIT!", and stalks out.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Staircase Tumble: Buttons tumbles down a flight of stairs leading to a rocket launch area.
  • Where No Parody Has Gone Before: When Mindy and Buttons end up on a transporter.

Closing Tower Gag: "And remember, Yakko spelled backwards is Okkay!"- Yakko
