When King Julien finds a box of diapers, he decides to turn them into a elite fashion item, starting a fashion war due to the low supply.

- Does This Make Me Look Fat?: When trying on the diaper in the beginning, Julien asks Maurice if the diaper makes his butt look big.
- Escalating War: The "Fashion War" between Julien and Ted and Dorothy, as each try to top the other with new diaper designs.
- Loophole Abuse: Julien bans Ted from distributing counterfeit KJ branded diapers, so he starts distributing a competing line of diapers instead.
- Orphaned Etymology: The idea of "Animal Print" (Zebra striped) is found confusing as Zebras aren't found on Madagascar so nobody is aware of an animal that looks like that.
- Overly Long Gag: Clover trying to bust Ted and Dorothy's counterfeit diaper operation by kicking down the door in the back of the room expecting to find it only to find an empty room.Clover: (After the breaking down the 11th door) Why do all these rooms look the same!?
- Scenery Censor: Parodied when Julien decides to stop the diaper fashion craze by ripping his off. His lower torso is blocked out by the scenery for quite some time even though there isn't usually anything there.
- Title Drop: "Diapers Are the New Black" is the name of the stand Julien distributes his KJ branded diapers from.
- Trend Aesop: King Julien's line of diapers lead to the lemurs who have them to look down on those who don't, leading to theft, counterfeit diapers, and general disorder among the kingdom. To put a stop to it, Julien unveils his latest fashon fad: not wearing clothes at all, which is what the lemurs were doing in the first place. Julien tells them that they just need to be themselves, even if they are not as fabulous as he is.
