Recap / Aggretsuko S 5 E 9 A Disconnected World

Go To

Ikari plans on having Retsuko run in Tokyo, the same ward where Haida's father ran years ago and where Jiro is running. They find the ideal place to set up the office, and some old friends meet to assist with the supplies. The only thing left to make the campaign official is the deposit.

The problem: it will cost 3 million yen to make it happen, and none of their friends and family can lend out that accumulated amount.

Tropes:

  • Always Need What You Gave Up: The money Haida's father offered could have been put toward deposit, despite the deal not to cause a commotion while Jiro is running. So long as got even 10% of the vote, they could still hand it back afterward. Haida suddenly regrets his decision to return it last episode.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: After five seasons, Retsuko works up the nerve to ask Gori and Washimi a simple question: Why were two higher-ups so interested in hanging out with someone like her? After a few seconds of throwing blame at each other, they finally confess that they took an interest in being friends with her.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: When Haida previously showed Tadano the internet cafe, he is able to buy the property so he would have an isolated place to relax from work. Haida calls him in this episode to turn the cafe into a temporary campaign office.
  • The Reveal: When Haida sees Shikabane again after a month of absence, he learns from her that Dokachin is working to make up for his gambling addiction, under the guise of child support.
  • Wham Shot: Acknowledging their friendship with Retsuko, Gori and Washimi offer to help her pay off the rest of the campaign deposit.
