Recap / Aggretsuko S 5 E 8 Rising To The Challenge

Go To

After getting cooling down from her raging high the previous night, she must find some way to convince Ikari that she is not interested in running for office. Unfortunately, the more she is exposed to the media, the harder it is to escape.

She and Haida discuss her situation, but going through with it will mean opposition on his brother's part.

Tropes:

  • All or Nothing: Hyodo warns Ikari that just because Retsuko is currently with them on stage for running, doesn't mean that she is likely to stick around since she still has her accounting job. This leaves Ikari the only option of teaching her about politics since the House of Rage is pretty much dead without her.
  • Cool People Rebel Against Authority: Retsuko feels unqualified since she her young age and Death Metal voice are all she has as a candidate, and she still needs to know about the issues. Haida tells her that the two might be necessary because the country needs younger voters instead of the older ones obsessed with the old days.
  • Ironic Echo: Last episode had Haida slumped at the bed after being manipulated by his brother. The start of this episode has Retsuko slumped after coming to grips about pleasing the masses.
  • Spit Take: This is everyone’s reaction to Retsuko’s seemingly entering in politics, from her family to her colleagues (except Kabae, who is just thrilled from this juicy scoop)
  • Wham Line: Jiro tells Haida that he should have Retsuko leave the running while he just sits in the corner since he accepted this father's money. He instead carries on with Retsuko, but not before coming home to return the money and say this:
Haida: Apologies in advance. I'm not sitting in the corner this time.
