* {{Expy}}: Another character reminiscent of an existing Marvel hero: while teleporting is a fairly common power, doing so by traveling through a Hell-dimension in a puff of smoke is unique to the Franchise/XMen's Nightcrawler. There's also the fact that both characters are very religious.

* ScrabbleBabble: At the end of the episode, most of Coulson's team are playing Scrabble (or at least, [=UpWords=]). Simmons plays "[[WhatTheHeckIsAnAglet aglet]]", which the others protest isn't a word. Settled when Skye looks it up online.

* NotSoDifferent: Coulson tells Skye that May used to be "warm, reckless and believed rules were meant to be broken". Then he asks Skye if this sounds familiar.

* WrenchWhack: Tobias is lugging around a pipe wrench, which he was carrying during the accident. This serves as the first hint that there's more to the accident than first appears; a pipe wrench is not the proper tool to be tightening bolts with.
* YouNeedToGetLaid: Skye's new opinion on May is that she wouldn't be so stiff if she got laid regularly. She tells this to Ward, not knowing he laid May the previous night. To his credit, Ward manages to show very little reaction despite the sudden comment.
