"Brought up on stories of David the Builder, the young and impassioned Tamar ascends her great-grandfather's throne with elaborate plans for her bustling kingdom. However, she quickly finds out that wielding such power is more than a simple matter of birthright. Can Georgia's first queen overcome her skeptics and leave an imprint to endure well beyond her lifetime?"
Campaign Intro

Tamar is one of three campaigns introduced by the Age of Empires II DLC The Mountain Royals. It follows the eponymous princess on her way to become Georgia's first queen.

In this campaign, the player controls the Georgians, and they use the color Red.

    Scenarios

#1. Takeover

#2. Yury's Revenge

#3. The Protectorate

#4. Tamar the Builder

#5. The Queen in the Panther's Skin

The campaign shows examples of:

  • Arranged Marriage: The intro of "Takeover" has the narrator telling her captor that Tamar was forced to marry a deposed Russian prince called Yury, whom she disliked very much.
  • Connected All Along: The narrator's captor is none other than Ogedei Khan, the son of Genghis Khan and the protagonist of the last two chapters of said campaign.
  • Cosmetic Award:
    • "Georgia On My Mind", for completing the campaign.
    • "Game's Over Yury", for defeating Yury before the end of the siege in "Yury's Revenge".
    • "Auntie Dearest", for assisting Alexios in completing his Wonder in "Tamar the Builder".
    • "Alexandra the Great", for completing all the sidequests in "The Queen in the Panther's Skin".
  • Hold the Line: "Yury's Revenge" is a siege mission where Tamar's forces have to protect a monument.
  • Shout-Out: The name of the mission "Yury's Revenge" is clearly inspired by C&C Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge.
  • Wham Line: At the end of the outro for "Tamar the Builder", while Tamar was celebrating the good times of her kingdom, she receives the harshest of news:
"Yet, as my mother knew all too well, even the happiest of moments can swiftly be soured. One night, an advisor arrived with a message that would forever haunt her. '‘Your husband is dead.’'"
