Tropes

  • Assurance Backfire: After the Gummiscope is destroyed by the Gummis, ruining his chances to conquer Dunwyn, Toadwart tries to console Igthorn by saying he'll always have him. This only enrages Igthorn to the point that he chases Toadwart.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Yes, the Glen Gummis have learned that their people still exist across the ocean, and Igthorn has been foiled, but the Gummiscope has been destroyed and the reply they received was ruined with it.
  • Childhood Memory Demolition Team: Igthorn and Toadwart break into the castle to get Igthorn's childhood copy of Gummi Bear stories. He's disgusted to learn that his childhood home has been condemned.
  • Don't Celebrate Just Yet: When the Gummis stop Igthorn from blasting Dunwyn before sunset, Cubbi initially believes they'd won, but Gruffi remarks that they've only bought themselves some time, as Igthorn would be able to attack again at dawn.
  • Drama-Preserving Handicap: Due to Cavin using his daily dose of Gummi Berry Juice to save Calla from the collapsed tower, the Gummis couldn't count on his Super-Strength to help stop Ighthorn.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: When Igthorn accidentally gets burnt by Toadwart's magnifying glass, it makes him remember the story of the Gummiscope.
  • Everyone Knows Morse: The Gummiscope sends out messages as flashes of sunlight in a Morse code manner.
  • Luck-Based Search Technique: When the Gummis are looking for the message in the rubble of the Gummiscope, Tummi sits down, only to sit up because he had sat on the pen that was with the message.
  • Never Recycle Your Schemes: When Toadwart suggests using a catapult to conquer Dunwyn, Igthorn berates him that they've already used one.
  • No Man Should Have This Power: The heroes come to the conclusion that they can't let the Gummiscope exist if Igthorn will use it to attack the kingdom, so they cause an underground flood to tear out its supports and make it collapse.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: When Toadwart asks why Igthorn doesn't burn Dunwyn to the ground, he replies that he doesn't want to rule over a pile of rubble.
  • Properly Paranoid: When the Gummis first fight the Gummiscope, Gruffi was reluctant to raise it as it could be seen by Igthorn, conceding when Zummi points out the duty they had to contact the Great Gummis. Turns out Gruffi was right to be hesitant as Igthorn soon finds it.
  • Solar-Powered Magnifying Glass: The Gummiscope's beam can burn through nearly anything, including stone bricks of a tower.
  • Tempting Fate: While ranting, Igthorn claimed he was Dunwyn's greatest knight, and if that wasn't the truth, may lightning strike him. It's not exactly lightning, but he gets burned on the rump by a concentrated sunbeam.
  • A Tragedy of Impulsiveness: The Gummis, unable to wait to contact the Great Gummis across the ocean, eagerly use the Gummiscope, which draws Igthorn's attention. When he captures it, he uses it to attack Dunwyn, injuring Calla.
  • You Are Not Alone: After getting a response from New Gumbria, the Glen Gummis are elated to know the Great Gummis are really out there.
