- Breather Episode: Sandwiched between two mini-series.
- Canon Immigrant: Nightmare Princess first appeared in "The Secret of the Nameless Kingdom", a Zelda-like clone released for the Playstation 3, PC, Xbox 360 and Nintendo 3DS, but her design in the show is completely different from the game. However, her new design resembles her One-Winged Angel form from the game.
- Dream Walker: Under the orb's influence, Finn, Jake and BMO walk into each other's dreams. Expectably, Jermaine is there too.
- Dreams of Flying: Finn's dream begins with him flying. When the orb takes over, he loses the ability to fly.
- Foreshadowing: Just like "King Worm", the dreams in this episode foreshadows several events that happens later in the series.
- One of the scenes shows the treehouse covered in candy, lava spreading across the land, icy clouds and a slimy sky, foreshadowing the events of "Elements."
- During his dream, Finn is able to fly freely in the sky, but he's later stuck to the ground after the grass grabs his legs, making him unable to fly. A few scenes later, the grass swallows him. Guess what Fern plans to do with Finn.
- After The Moon sucks Jake's blood, The Shapeshifter appears outside the house, looking at him through the window.
- A mysterious sword with a purple handle and an eye can be seen in the title card. The same sword can be seen stuck at the wall after Finn enters Jake's dream.
- A Lich BMO suddenly shows up during BMO's dream, whispering at Finn and Jake.
- I Fell for Hours: Finn, Jake, and BMO fall for an inordinately long time near the end of their shared dream.Jake: This fall is taking longer than I thought it would. I wish I had a game to pass the time while we were plunging to our death, or like a puzzle or something.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After the dream version of Moon the Vampire drains Jake of his blood, Jermaine is freaked out and bails out into a dream painting.
- Stock Costume Traits: BMO's "director" outfit in his dream includes a beret and a scarf.
- Wham Shot: At the end of the episode, BMO looks at Ooo through a spyglass and finds that everything is transformed, apparently by the Elementals. Not realizing the nightmarish implications, he delightedly says it's "like a dream".
