Jealous?
Bubblegum is concerned when Finn starts hanging out with Flame Princess, leading Jake to believe that she is jealous.

Tropes

  • Apocalypse Maiden: Flame Princess is revealed to be this, in that if she has strong enough emotions; she could destroy the planet.
  • Big Damn Kiss: Finn and Flame Princess kiss for the first and only time, and it nearly destroys the world.
  • Continuity Nod: PB's raptor steed The Morrow, from "Death In Bloom", reappears.
  • Driven by Envy: What Jake thinks of Bubblegum's reasons for not wanting Flame Princess to be with Finn. He's wrong.
  • Indirect Kiss: After Finn and Flame Princess direct kiss caused FP to burn through the Earth's crust, Finn decided to kiss a rock and give it to FP where she also kisses the rock.
  • Master of the Mixed Message: Due to poor communication on Jake's part, and some very poor choice of words on PB's part, Finn mistakenly believes that PB is expressing her love for him after he's moved on to another partner:
Princess Bubblegum: Finn, sometimes you want someone and you want to kiss them, and be with them. But you can't, because responsibility demands sacrifice.
Finn: What are you trying to say?!
Princess Bubblegum: I'm trying to say that you're a hero, Finn. You're my hero.
  • Nap-Inducing Speak: Bubblegum tries to explain to Jake what will happen if Flame Princess gets too excited, but uses so much scientific jargon that she puts him to sleep.
  • Poor Communication Kills: The drama between Finn and Bubblegum could've been avoided if she had just gone straight to the point without all the scientific babble the first chance she got.
  • Rewatch Bonus: Princess Bubblegum's talk to Finn about not being able to be with the people you love because of your responsibilities becomes a lot more significant in light of later episodes exploring PB's prior relationship and breakup with Marceline.
  • Screams Like a Little Girl: Finn when Princess Bubblegum surprises him while he's writing poems.
  • Shoot the Dog: Princess Bubblegum is willing to suffocate Finn if it prevents Flame Princess from destroying the world.
    • Though she says it'll only take just under 25 seconds to douse flame Princess, and she's likely aware that a human can go longer than that without breathing.
  • Shout-Out: The idea of Flame Princess burning through the Earth's crust and destroying the world is identical to the big world-ending event looming over everyone in Godzilla vs. Destoroyah, only in Flame Princess' case, it's because of strong emotions, while in Godzilla's case, his heart had gone into a literal nuclear meltdown thanks to being overwhelmed by the energy he received from a dying Rodan in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II, as well as overexerting himself while using said energy to kill SpaceGodzilla.
  • Too Much Information: Jake's descriptions of the "tiers" of romantic/sexual interaction include ones that are rather specific to female Rainicorns.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Jake calls out PB big-time for disregarding Finn's feelings, even if the current issue was a misunderstanding.
Jake: You heartless monster! Do you have any idea how much he's cried over you?! Finn deserves to be happy, even if his boobin' face gets burned off! You should be ashamed! You're sick!
  • Wham Line: "This isn't about some petty love triangle! Flame Princess is physically unstable!"
