Chapter 1: Demons Meet Loud
When Lincoln Loud comes across a peculiar teacher who's being targeted by imps from Hell, things sure do happen.
Tropes That Appear In This Chapter:
- Asshole Victim: Mr. Stillman initially comes off as a decent fellow who gets on good terms with Lincoln fairly quickly... only to reveal himself to be a satanist who had been sacrificing children to maintain eternal life. So Blitz blowing his brains out near the end was very much deserving.
- Continuity Nod: Lincoln informs Lucy that the last time he listened to one of her ominous fortunes, he nearly got stranded at the park, in reference to the events of "Raw Deal".
- Drives Like Crazy: Blitz steals a car when he and his employees realize they're at the wrong school, and while driving, he makes no attempts to follow speed limits, causes expensive property damages, and nearly runs over a few people.
- Even Evil Has Standards: I.M.P is an assassination business, but they draw the line at killing children, with Moxxie having difficulty shooting Mr. Stillman because of Lincoln being in the way.
- Evil Teacher: Mr. Stillman. He poses as a kind and approachable substitute teacher but it's all a façade to lure children into his home where he kills them in exchange for eternal life. It's even stated that he had been doing this for well over 50 years.
- Precision F-Strike: After watching a group of literal demons kill his Evil Teacher and gets transported to Hell along with them, all Lincoln can say is, "What the hell?"
- Properly Paranoid: Lucy warns Lincoln early in the chapter about a premonition she had about something bad happening to him. Lincoln at first dismisses this as Lucy's usual superstitious paranoia, but considering the remainder of the story focuses on Lincoln being trapped in Hell with no known way back home, it's safe to say Lucy was absolutely right.
- Shout-Out: Blitz complains that Lucifer's "little princess' sentimentality" is rubbing off on Moxxie.
